    Smile Remeron/Mirtazpine

    Hello to my friends. I talked to my psych doctor yesterday and now he is going to try Mirtazpine on me for moods/anxitey/depression. I would like to know if this drug has worked on anyone else out there? I would love to here from you about this drug. Thanks.

    That's not actually a bad idea, assuming no benzos. I've tried it, but haven't really been on any course of therapy with it. It does decrease anxiety, but makes you drowsy as well. I hear it's a very robust antidepressant though. Stick with it. Sneak in some prn IOP valium on the side...just joking.

    But Remeron I respect. It does what's expected of it.

    Umm, you will probably gain some weight, though. Be prepared.

    I'm on 30mg of it every evening but it was used in my case as on addition to another anti-depressant. It's meant to have sedating properties to help you sleep but I never noticed that side effect. I wouldn't have anything bad to say about it except it's meant to cause weight gain.

    Yeah, that was rude, I apologize. But This doctor is really intriguing! He would rather give someone a full dose of an antipsychotic but not half a Valium.

    Passionflower extract has phytochemicals that are partial benzodiazepine agonists. That could be something else to consider. Make sure its the aerial tops and not the leafs, which may contain small amount of MAOI's.

    If this one doesnt help, i know he will try tradazone on me. He was going too but wanted to try this one first. I just want to feel good again during the day and evening. I really dont know how my girl friend puts up with me. Really low sex drive too. I think im going to ask my doctor for something about the sex thing. Im sure he will give me something.

    That's the trouble with these "alternatives", they trade feeling anxious for feeling vaguely tired and sh**ty. That's why I really don't see being physically dependent on a stable dose of benzos to be so evil. At least there are few side effects.

    As for something to increase your sex drive, it would have to be some kind of stim of Wellbutrin-type thing. I'm sure he'll try something.

    I'm scripted trazodone, mirtazapine and hydroxyzine for depression, anxiety and insomnia. This cocktail has worked pretty well for me. I still have bad days, but they are few and far between. And I've managed to put on thirty pounds, which is a good thing for me.

    Default My Experience With Remeron

    I have taken remeron in the past as well for the same reason as many mentioned, sleep, anxiety, substitute for benzos.

    For sleep it is alright, but the weight gain was worst of any drug I have ever taken and the next day drowsiness was next worst.

    I agree these drugs like trazadone and remeron that are given for sleep are not that great compared to first line sleep drugs and exercise. Almost every majot study ever done point s out what seems loigical- for sleep, for line sleep aids work best. Of course the caveat is that they are almost all-short term.

    That is what I resigned myself to. Short-term use and then I switch to a different kind of pill or go off for a while. No mor ethan a few weeks on anything though. For me I miss a night ot 2 of sleep but overall it is much better than it used to be when my tolerance was so high for sleeping pills.

    Please respect Remeron as it puts me down like a horse at 30mg so be sure you are ready to hit the hay when taking it in my opinion.

    Increase exercise to fight off the weight gain. It can be very rapid if you're taking it daily.

    I use 15mg for sleep every now ad then. Frankly, I can barely wake up the next morning and it leaves me with a clouded head that no drug or amount of exercise can clear up.

    Coming off of it is also difficult. If SSRIs haven't worked for you, maybe this will...

    My psychiatrist kept me on it for sleep since she didn't want to prescribe an Ambien or the like. She mentioned that Remeron/Mirtazipine is being prescribed off-label (for things such as a sleep aid) and that's generally an indication among the psychiatrist community that the drug is no longer effective at treating its intended issue.

    This has been the case with Trazodone, which was introduced a couple decades ago as an anti-depressant and while some people do receive it in combination with other drugs, it's primarily being used off-label in the same sense since on its own it's not very effective as an anti-depressant.

    @chris100
    I think @audacity and @enigma are correct with their feedback regarding Remeron (mirtazapine). The medication is known for being highly sedating (especially at lower dosages) and could be in fact useful for your anxiety symptoms as long as it's tolerable for you. Weight gain is a given, unfortunately, and I packed on pounds taking only 7.5-15mg nightly for insomnia. Seemed to keep a voracious appetite while on the drug. Whatever the case, work closely with your physician and don't be afraid to address your questions/concerns when it comes to the overall effectiveness of the drug regimen. You are you're best advocate when it comes to your health!

    So i talked to my doctor today and now he wants me to try trazodone on me. Cause i told him the 600 mg of seroquil is doing it for me. What a joke with this guy. As long as he stays away from benzos he is fine. Well im going to see my family doctor today and ask her for another psych doctor. This guy is just treating me like a lets see what will work for this guy after 10 different mood meds/ sleeping meds/ AD meds. Im done with it. He is not getting it.

    Mirtazapine works really well for me. Im on 15 mg at night time. I find it doesnt really have the sedating power it did have when I first started taking it . Im going to have to bring this up on my next visit. It really does Help with my depression and anxiety after getting laid off and divorce in the same year.

    I've had insomnia for years It's been really bad lately...My doc threw me a 45MG script this week of Remeron (Mirtazapine) That seems like a high MG to me compared to you other folks who get this stuff prescribed to them......I didn't like the fact that it is an Anti-Depressant either...I'm having insomnia, I'm not depressed...

    @cajunbulldog

    Damn man if Remeron didn't bring you down. I can't imagine what 45 would do to me. Yer' a friggin' bad-ass bro.

    Careful with the "Trazadone"...Nasty shit (if it works for you -God Bless..talk about 'Groggy')...They gave that Crap to me for just plain 'ol insomnia, because the Head Doctor Dude HATEED Xanax, Valium and Ativan(???) Major Douche-Bag....I guess he owns a lot of stock in "Trazadone" (wtf?)

    Ativan and Halcion work wonders for me and my insomnia when it comes a knocking. They are two medications I obviously do not want to be taking on a daily basis, but if there are nights you need them,there are nights you need them.
