Default Angie's List for Pain Clinics

I've been wanting to ask this for awhile....is anyone here a member of the wesite, Angies's List? If so, are there very many good recommendations for pain specialists/clinics?
Based on information I've seen about this site, I'd figure people would be very honest in their reviews.

(It is not a free site and small towns are typically not featured there. So, if you live in a very small town as I do, I assume you have to sign up under the closest largest city to where you live)

I'm very tempted to join the site to see what information they have available, but would much rather save my money if nothing beneficial is there.

I have never heard of it but I am always skeptical when something asks you to pay to join. I live in a small town also and the nearest large city would still be quite a trip to take. But before you shell out any money make possitively sure that you get something for your money.

@chera, I just looked into Angies List a few days ago myself (and being such a cheapskate AND because I live in a small town, I didn't actually go through with either... although I'm still debating it. Would love to hear from anyone who has used it - even if not for medical - especially if they live in a small town too.
    Regards,
    Melly

    Angie's list seems interesting.

I could not find (easily) the actual rate you pay. There are more than one membership plans available. They do mention health care providers. It seems they try to resolve issues also to keep a rating system going.

They will refund your money if you do not like it (which would be obvious if in a very small town and none of the services reviewed are near you).

    Would be interesting to try.

They warn other free review places are not reliable - which is a good way to get people to join.

There are bound to be some good free review places.

It is not very good for looking up doctors and not very good in general.

They act like it is free for businesses, but AL will email you after you get your first rating asking if you would like an enhanced version for a fee.

If you notice, businesses that pay tend to always be one of the first listings that pop up, and they have a more polarizing ad.

You can shill as many reviews as you want. Just keep putting in new addys as a consumer. It is a small fee to pay for a business who will end up getting thousands of dollars from these false reviews.

I went to a small doctor a while back. At the end of the visit, he hands me this printout that was a reminder to 'leave positive feedback on kudzu and angies list" He asked me if I was going to do it, and I say yes. He then goes and grabs a bunch of samples of meds for me.

This led a bad taste in my mouth so I wrote on Kudzu.com. "Doctor tried to pimp me out for some samples that were free"

Save yourself the money and potential scam by opening up the yellow pages, and check out some of the free review sites like Kudzu.com, ratemd.com

@jimmyfingers thanks for that info. The dr. was trying to bribe you for a good rating.

I was more interested in lawyer reviews.

I want to be prepared for anything and the lawyer I knew has retired.

The yellow pages just are overwhelming on who to get. You have to know if they do trials (better position to bargain with DA - some lawyers avoid trials now), what their experience is, what results they get, how much, payment plans, etc...

A good place to start is the county bar association and check to see who is the president, vice president, etc. These guys usually will know the DA, ADAs, judges quite well and are familiar with the wheels of justice for that county.

@jimmyfingers you are right. The county bar association does do referrals. They do have to take down personal info which they assure is strictly confidential (this is worrisome as they are not the att. or secretary so do not have to abide the att/client privilege).

Would have to be vague but request an att. and then you make an appt. and visit them for a fee to ask questions.

Although usually people do this after there is a problem.

This is a lot better than the yellow pages - thanks for the info.

Obvious am over planning possible situations.

    @alterante

You are not over-planning. I don't know or care about your personal life, but it is always good to know who you are going to call if shit hits the fan.

You don't want to get in trouble and have to rush around trying to find one.

Even in the event of divorce, you should already know who you are calling before it happens. I know it sucks to think like this, but it is always good to be prepared.

True, bar associations give referrals. The problem is that their referrals do not necessarily lead you to the best lawyers. I know this through personal experience. Sadly, you will often be referred to bar association members who have put their names on a referral list because their practice is floundering and they need the business. These are not the ones you want to use.

Often times, referrals are given on the basis of politics or friendships. This does not guarantee good legal representation either. I'm assuming you live in the U.S. Did you know that the U.S. has only about 6% of the world's population, but about 85% of the world's lawyers? I hate to say it but the legal system in the U.S. has become corrupt, mainly because there are so many lawyers and not enough work to keep them all fully employed. And don't hire the one who runs the most TV ads. If they were good, they would have a thriving practice and wouldn't have to pay to advertise.

The best way to be sure you are getting good legal representation is to go to law school. Then you will know who to hire when you need a lawyer, and you will know whether or not he is doing a good job for you. If that's not an option, then find people who have used a lawyer for same type of situation you have to deal with, and get their opinions on the quality of the lawyer they used. If you can't get good recommendations based of people's actual experience, you are rolling the dice.

When surveyed this more in detail you get an appointment at a reduced rate to talk with referred lawyer.

I would know some questions to ask them (do they do trials is important because a lot of lawyers do not want to do those which puts them at lesser bargaining power with DA).

But that might quickly add up interviewing lawyers.

What their offices are is a good clue also. Do they actually have an office with a secretary? Some are now just getting a group office with a secretary. Some have a home office and meet up with a client at a place that rents out 'meeting rooms'. Then again you don't want someone with a fancy high rise with big rent - you get that cost in the fee.

Asking for the type of lawyer needed would be a surprise with friends and neighbors - but some regular 'no criminal record' people have to worry about this thanks to difficulty in getting meds that were once freely prescribed.

You're right, some lawyers do trials and some do not. Also, some only practice in specific areas of the law such as, criminal defense, personal injury, estates and trusts, divorce and custody, etc. You can get answers those questions with a phone call and it won't cost you anything. As far as fees go, you get what you pay for. You don't want to choose a lawyer just because he has a low hourly rate. You may not be happy with the results you get.
