Default has this ever happened to you?

i have a case of chronic bursitis in my hip. it is very painful. i have to sit a lot in front of a computer all day and i think it aggravates it.

so today at lunch i went to the shopping center next door to where i work where they have an out patient clinic. its just aplace where u walk in for things less serious than an emergency room visit. i was there in march for the same thing. the first time, the dr was very good and gave me some helpful meds. however, todays dr seemed to me to be looking at me funny, like maybe i was lying or something. may be just my paranoid mind doing overtime.

has anyone had an experience where you felt like maybe the dr did not believe u were in pain and looked at u like u were under Microscope or something.

@pia - i would guess almost all of us have had this happen at one time or another. But keep in mind walk in clinics and ER's are full of med seekers. Every minute of every day. Doctors are numb to it and callous. So when someone is in pain, half the time, they don't think it's as bad as you say or care if it is. Sad truth. My ex was an ER doc and I have friend in ER Med. They complain about it.

    You're not alone.

Many years ago when I suffered from migraines I dragged myself and my toddler to one of those quick-see places. I lived in the Midwest. I was close to tears and was just on the cusp of a horrible migraine, but my husband was out of town and I needed something so I could function.

The doctor was short with me, suspicious, condescending, and I left there not only in pain but also in tears. He scripted me what I had taken in the past but was not at all happy about it and I felt terrible when I left, not just physically.

And I do understand that there are med-seekers that they have to be wary of...but even after getting home with my Rx and lying down I remember thinking "wow...maybe I would have ended up feeling better or just as good, if I'd just stayed home."

I would imagine many on here have been there.

@emerald Doctors don't care they have (and don't care) about your pain. Notice I didn't say they don't care about your money. I used to work with Doctors all over the country and get them to take referrals you know what the pitch was the rewards are greater than the risk. And before this Ryan Height crap they used to be. You would be surprised how many Doctors make less than a Union Welder. But being the crafty people we are if there's a will there will always be a way.

what do you mean that the er workers complain? do they lean more toward empathy for the patient? or do they treat you like a junkie trying to get set up?
my experience is that some doctors are more sympathetic than others. one doctor i saw had the same condition i have ( bursitis) so she seemed to understand how painful it is and was less judgemental. i guess one never knows...

That's very interesting. Were you (or are you) being paid by these "referral" web sites that you recommend so frequently?

They totally do! I am a nurse and if someone comes in too much complaining of pain, they are most definately labeled. Many times, we are even called by the ER to be warned that they are drug-seekers. Sadly, I am guilty of this attitude too, but still better than most nurses. I am NEVER rude or mean about it, that's the doc's job. You really do become callous after you've seen it enough.

If I had to ballpark it I would say 80% of medical staff assume your an addict. If they go to pull your history and see a bunch of visits all for pain, it's game over.

I've had kidney stones since I was 19. I get about one or two a year. Which means at least that often I'm in an ER doubled over screaming my head off begging for pain control. I get stuffed to a corner and left for hours sometimes before they will give me anything. And after they run a UA, blood work, ultrasound and f**cking cat scan that SHOWS THE STONES. Then they suddenly find their freaking empathy.

I recruited Doctors in the old days before Ryan Height and was paid well for recruiting them. But I never took a penny for getting a referral. Tell me since you said you acquired your vast knowledge in the joint what block were you on it had to be protection you wouldn't last a hot rock'in minute in general population unless you were doing your Daddy's laundry.
