Default Giving gifta to pain management docors and staff.

Giving gifts to pain management doctors, sorry I have a cast on, but I got 15 norco out of it...pfffffttt...

If they treat you well. You love them, then why not give them a gift basket? Its not like its a rolex or cash in an envelope. I do it and will continue to do it until someone specifically asks me to stop. I tend to send gift baskets, in or around $100 , or I assemble myself. Much fun. Any views are welcome because this can be a delicate topic if you know what I mean.

There is nothing wrong with showing appreciation as long as the gift is not too personal or expensive. A gift like a fruit basket to a small group of professionals is ok. Just my opinion.

I would ask you to stop as I would be required to report it as a client gift which is a pain in the ass.

Be sure your recipients are not required to report gifts in excess of $25 or whatever the state maximum is in your state.

I have actually helped my psychiatrist out with home stereo stuff and he told me that in the state we are it was a $50 type deal. So, he had to give me equipment that was worth the same value. It wasn't and we both knew it but he is cool and I did not do it because he was prescribing what I wanted so I think if the motive is clear it is alright even though I think more and more they will decline.

My guy is old and retiring and does not give a f**k and those are the best docs to have in my humble opinion.

Yeah I mean its just food i'm sending them, for the whole office to share, its Ina Gartrens "Barefoot Contessa" dessert basket, one for each staff. Last time I gave the doc an elaborate gift basket that was huge and had an expensive bottle of champagne probably $200. He never mentioned it but he was even kinder than ever next time I came into see him...hmm.....how to interpret that one....??? The receptionist did thank me for her bottle of pinot noir, chocolates, and french waffle crisps. I'm a nice guy I cant help it. The receptionist did say they "would never discharge me" when I had a concern (marryj in urine) "because I give the best gifts" so maybe I'm buying brownie points. I'm not worried about getting in trouble with them, its a nice feeling to know you wont get booted without many a warning.

I would never decline some cheese and sausages. NEVER. Even if it put my business in jeopardy. Hows anyone going to know for christ sakes are we all sure here they even are required to report it? I don't believe that.
    @billyboy1965

I mean Im sure you know more than I, probably right, but who the hell is going to report a gift basket and whose gonna enforce and what are the penalties, that's a bunch of crap if they require that.

    And yes it is bribery...jk

They already hook it up and are clear on what they can give, I know they know its from the heart, plus a little security in relationship.

I guess its because they already are a little shady that I do it, and yes I want them to be good to me also is part of it, in all honesty.

Yes it is, unless nominal in value, for exactly the reason you're doing it.

I know that as a pharmaceutical rep you can not give gifts or even treat docs to lunches anymore, its been banned since it was basically bribery. There is always loopholes though lol

Well, you're appreciative of their help. It's not like you're walking in with a big basket of goodies on your 1st appointment.
I do this every Christmas for my primary care doctor and a different one for his staff. The pill situation hasn't changed. I still don't get the good ones.

I know that in our healthcare related office we may not accept gifts like this. Period. It is enforced. Even from pharm reps, medical ride companies, and patients. Our company rule is any gift a patient gives us over $10 cannot be accepted. They do enforce it. Essentially we can accept baked goods, cookies, things like that. Even that raises the boss's eyebrows and might be stopped. It's a conflict of interest for exactly the reason you do it lol. I sure wish that it wasn't because the free lunches, gifts, etc., are so appreciated by the worker bees in healthcare. Really.

Imo seems very tacky, maybe a simply card around holidays or such but not a gift basket. They may just be throwing the stuff away also as I worked at an office where that was done with any gifts giving.

Lol @ this. AIn't that the truth. One of my best girlfriends has a GP who is about 2 years from retiring and he gives her Perc scripts like there's no tomorrow. Sadly though, the old, lenient ones are on the WAY OUT, and the new, young batch are strict, no-nonsense, and apt to label you a drug-seeker even if you're in legit pain. Ah well.

Edible gifts are usually a good idea, though. In my last office, anytime we received gifts of food, that stuff was gone in an INSTANT. Who would have ever thought a bunch of legal assistants would be so damn hungry??

THAT is hilarious. If it works for you, go for it. I feel like such extravagant gifts would make your doctor and staff feel like they were being put in an awkward position/make them feel uncomfortable, obligated in some way, etc....but if it seems to work for you, then do what works for you. Personally I've never given a doctor a gift.

I don't buy anything for my doctor, but I do bring him & the staff a bouquet, usually roses & flowers from my garden. They accept it & are appreciative of it.I've also brought my psychiatrist vegetables from my garden.I've never had the doctor increase my meds or anything & I believe that's how it should be.I used to do the same thing for my son's teachers when they were in school.
