Default Going to see a new doctor

Hi everyone...... Im going to see a doctor today that should help me with my moods / anxitey/ lack of sleep. He is one of the best in my area to help with these problems. The 600 mg of Seroquil im on is a joke, and i will be telling him that. All these medications that are to help your moods do nothing for me, so i have to make him understand that. What i need is a good sleeping pill, and a pill that makes me feel happy through out the day. Im sure there has to be something out there that wil make me feel that way. Never mind these mood medications, they are a joke. Anyway, i will let you know how everything goes after i see him today. Be well everyone.

Thanks for asking Waterfall.... He HAS TO DO BLOODWORK first before he changes anything. So I HAVE about 2 weeks of bloodwork i have to do before he changes anything. I dont see him until Aug3 cause he will be away until then. But he seems like a very good doctor. He CARES what you tell him and he is very open and listens. I will keep you in touch waterfall. Thanks

Also i did not say anything to him about using benzos. After all the blood work he is doing on me, he might find out anyway, and im fine with that. I would just tell him i had know where else to go with it. But HE IS PRETTY DOWN TO EARTH.

    Question what knid of doc?

@Chris, you did not mention what kind of doctor he is. I took Seroquel for quite some time and just like everything else, after a while is looses it's juice. I am now taking doxepin (generic for sinequan-?sp?). I am a notoriously terrible sleeper, always have been. My best sleep came on a dr prescribed cocktail of klonopin and atavan. Either by themselves did nothing but in combination seemed to do well. But my tolerance for benzos grew quickly and i had to be taken off them. But since i take mscontin for pain the doxipin seems to be working although i am ready to once again increase the dosage to 150mgs. Let us know about the doc and good luck in finding a solution.

Benzodiazepine use doesn't stigmatize you in psych doctors eyes necessarily. Abuse is a different matter. Don't say they made you feel good or anything else that can be misinterpreted as misuse or abuse. Taking them as prescribed, on a prn basis, as an add-on to other meds, etc. all work in your favor.

I agree that 600 mg of Seroquel in the absence of psychosis or acute severe mania is overkill. There were trials for Seroquel and GAD, but the dose was something like 150 mg.

If you tell the doctor you were prescribed benzos in the past, he may just take your word for it how much you were being prescribed. Worked for me several times (no trickery involved, I was honest about the dose, but they did not bother to verify what I said at all)

My experience is that 0.5 mg Klonopin twice a day prn for anxiety is considered a rational dose, especially when just starting out. If you say a psych doc in the past prescribed you that dose, he might just say, "That sounds reasonable. Let's continue that as an add-on".

Some pdocs like to all kinds of general medical stuff like bloodwork or taking biography-like histories. Others don't even take your pulse. The blood test might not be for drugs, but a general medical blood test for lipids, liver enzymes, thyroid levels (hypothyroidism mimics depression, hyperthyroidism mimics mania).
