@alumni..misunderstanding..Codeine is converted to morpine by cyp450 and is inhibited by 3A4...I have to inhibit 3A4 an hour before taking codeine

@Coheed They do have oxycodone in Peru, its just only at one or two pharmacies in the country and I think tightly regulated. You can however literally get whatever else you want there without a prescription. If you are looking for something for pain, the Vic of South America is Voltaren Forte (diclofenac 50, codeine 50) which is surprisingly effective but a bit pricey. The international airport even has a pharmacy right outside the terminal where you can simply ask for some whatever you wish. Morphine and Fentanyl are hard to come by and are only stocked at the hospital pharmacies, I imagine by doctors orders only.

The one major problem with Peru is that 40% of their medications are actually fakes (Peru has the uncanny ability to fake anything and everything, even sugar - no joke). This really is not a problem though, as long as you stick to one of the major pharmacies like Inkafarm and stay away from the Boticas.

For some reason, tramadol is a major hit in South America. For the life of me, I cannot understand it, but the stuff is ubiquitous down there.

As for Chile and Argentina, all controlled substances are by prescription. Otherwise you do not need a script for anything else. For Oxycontin, I believe it is only carried in Argentina and Chile with the EX imprint (contrary to many beliefs) by one manufacturer under license from Purdue. This too is only carried at a select number of pharmacies and is under strict regulation with triplicate scripts. In order to obtain it, you will have to jump through hoops showing your legitimate condition and deal with the significantly large number of crazy looks at you.

One final note, do not bother asking for hydro anywhere south of the border. It is an anomaly restricted to the US and very rarely used anywhere else, unless it is being sold on the street after being brought from the US. I think Colombia is the only place where it is stocked. It used to be OTC under the name Sinalgen, but i doubt it is available OTC now due to the gringos figuring it out.

Argentina though is amazing for regular meds. Meds here that could cost nearly $3000 are many times $30 there without prescription.

One more thing, speaking Spanish helps. It is real tough to get anything done in South America without speaking Spanish unlike say Mexico. And it is vary rare for any medication to go by the same brand name. In addition generic names sometimes change also. For example, codeine is actually fosfato de codeina, or codeina, where as diclofenac is diclofenaco.

As for importation back to the US, don't believe the nonsense that it is legal. In reality, the chance of getting in trouble really relies on whatever CBP officer is questioning you. These people have no uniformity in procedure when it comes to medication, probably a reflection of our vague rules and regulations regarding it. I have heard some people declare things and be passed through; some not declare, have it found, and still waived through; some people just have it confiscated; and then others face penalties. This also seems to be the case with coca leaves, another story for another day.

On that topic, did you try the Mate de Coca? Not the most pleasant tasting unless with mint, but it sure does the trick!

Here in Brazil we have oxycontin. Simplest type of controlled script. Not very strictly regulated. Can't buy without a script, though. Besides psychotropics and anabolizant steroids, you can get almost everything without a script.

One more question, does Brazil have a significant amount of private doctor's offices and small walk-in clinics or is it more hospital oriented?

Really? Oxycoton is the same schedule as cocaine? I had no idea! That is good to know. It is really hars to get Rx for oxy. Any one know if oxy is stronger than vicodin? Never had an R for vicodin. Thx

@need2losewt I think some people might argue it. But the definitive answer is yes, it is stronger. You can google "opioid equivalency" to get an idea of how they all relate.

I am not sure I understand exactly what you are saying though. Any time you go to a doctor, he gives you oxy for your pain right off the bat? But you also say that it is really hard to get that prescription?

I think it is smart medicine to start low and work your way up. I think it is highly irresponsible to start someone on oxy before trying hydro or codeine first. The one exception is if you need around the clock pain control. In this case, there is no lower options currently, but will be soon. Even with that being said, if 3 hydro per day would control anyone's pain, I might consider that a better option than oxy sustained release in my personal opinion.

From my research on the internet I have found that most of the sights that sell Oxy are scammers they either take your money and run or send fakes. I would recomend going to your Doctor and getting a prescription that you can fill at your local pharmacy.

Huge amount of private doctor's offices. There's also a significant amount of hospitals and clinics as well, both public, which can be used by anyone for free, and private. Most people here rely on the public health system, which isn't really that bad if you survive through the queue :P

Well, I've found that the supply of oxy among the pharmacies is quite adequate. The one they sell here is made in USA by purdue. They mostly script tramadol, codeine and oxy to cancer patients, since these are the least controlled prescription strength opiates. There's morphine, fentanyl and methadone, but it seems to me they are quite restricted.

Thing is that here doctors usually only prescribe opiates for cancer-related pain. Of course, there are doctors out there which are going to prescribe you anything you ask. SWIM once saw a neurologist which once asked him straight up if he wanted a script for Ritalin or Modafinil to try them just because he mentioned he was tired, and this particular doctor was even covered by insurance. Also, if you know a pharmacist, they will usually be able to sell you anything without a script (of course they take their own %, but it's still well worth it, 20 Ritalin pills go for $20 through a pharmacist, twice their white market price but still good).

Opiates really aren't well known and understood by the public here and doctors which aren't used to treating terminal patients. If you go buy some anabolic steroid, the person at the pharmacy is gonna thoroughly inspect your script to see if it's not fake, but if you go buy some oxy, they don't care at all. As @Perromaldido said, here we have an opiate medication called dividol sold without a script. It can be comboed with ketoconazole, which doesn't require a script either, and you've got yourself something VERY strong. On the other hand, in the last decade all of the OTC codeine products became prescription-only because the syrups started being abused.

Boy, the day people here really learn something about drugs, even DXM is going to require a script here.

I went backpacking to Thialand in the winter and the doctor (in the UK) gave me a supply to take with me along with a letter explaining my needs for the Oxycontin I was prescribed by GP in UK.
When my supply ran out because I decided to stay longer in Thialand, I visited an international hospital in Bangkok and had a consultation with the pain doctor at the hospital.

I was stunned to find out that oxycontin is actually illegal to prescribe in Thialand and to be honest I started to panic and mentally make plans to fly straight back to tne UK because I can't function without my meds (due to a broken back). However, it all worked out well in the end and she told me she could prescribe me morphine as an alternative to the oxycontin, she also explained that I would need a higher dose of morphine than the dose I was on of oxycontin. The morphine she prescribe although pricey done the job and certainly helped with the back pain.

One related comment is that SWIM's grandmother started taking them for back pain. She was filling herself with Codeine 30mg+500mg Paracetamol and other NSAIDs like Naproxen with no efficacy. One pill was sufficient to relieve her pain.

You bet @etinim___dividol (viminol) is a strange beast....2x are certainly lot better than swallowing 500mg Paracetakilla and par if not above 30 mgs Cod. But when the K factor is added then you really get lost as to what is an opiate and what is not and -mostly- why. I gather you know some about chemistry so look at the benchmark molecule of opioids and viminol and explain what do they have in common. If you look at the box you'll 90% find that is made by Zambon Italy only, which is curious, as it's hardly used here while in BR is pretty common. Well 2 years ago they withdrew ketaconazole from the market, and the so called equivalents don't have any boosting efficacy.

After extensive travel in Europe, I found Spain to sell (Dolocatil) 15/325 codeine, and 30/325 codeine sold over the counter A box of 30 will cost you (providing your not a citizen of Spain, which health care is subsidized by their psuedo-facist/socialist government, and therefore free), about 1-3 euros. At an exchange rate as of today 1.23 euro to the dollar. So basiclly the dollar is $.77 in real value. Do not even bring US currency, you have to pay 2-5% to exchange it. Use debit card an ATM and do not pay a fee.

After snowboarding in that terrible winter we had I got hurt.

I went to the front desk of my hotel and asked for a doctor, 40 euros at the office, 80 euros at home. So I paid the 80 euros and showed him my bottles and got 90 xanax, 200 tramadol 150mg OTC, and I did not even fill the morphine since it is hospital dispense only. No one has even heard of OC or hydro any where I went and I even went to Ibiza, where everything in the world is available, except legit pain meds.

BTW:
The Bulldog in AMS is in full swing. I don't know why that rumor is still around.
We spent a lot of time there and I recommend that if your legal medical condition warrants it, ie card holders.

Safe travels, and try to manage pain to the point where 30/325 dolocatil helps, it will save you thousands over time.
