Question Getting back on ADD meds with New Doctor

Hey i could really use some help.
Okay so for a few years i was being precribed ADD meds mostly ritalin but sometimes adderall(adderall didnt work great for me). But in a nutshell, i dont see that doctor anymore and its about a year since i have had any add meds prescribed. I am thinking about going back on them, i will be seeing a totally different doctor, but i do believe i have notation stating what i was on and that i was diagnosed with add.

Am i going to have a hard time getting back on ritalin/add meds? Like will having documentation that i used to be on it help, or am i just going to have to start all over with everything and hope one day they decide to give me add medication?

    I really appreciate your help.

I guess it really depends on your new doc, what info you have - lots of factors. When I moved from Wausau to Eau Claire for college I had no problem switching doctors from my Adderall - but then again, the paperwork was just faxed from one doc to another - In your case, I would try to get all of your old paperwork as possible - you don't want to go into the Doctor's Office just looking like you're coming for XXX Pills - and its going to depend on your new Doc - some Docs are just more liable to prescribe these meds than others - so Good Luck - keep us posted - I know what a hassle switching Docs can be!

thanks, @Kittsoan1989 yeah thats kinda what i worry about, that they will think im just trying to score some pills. Yeah iguess it really all depends on the doctor, guess its time to go dig up those files! Add medication i dont think will be super hard to switch doctors but I fear the day i have to get my pain medication elsewhere. (i get my add meds from therapist and pain med from primary care doc). I would ask him but idk he's not one to prescribe things easily and i try to see him as little as possibly b/c i fear he's going to start weening me off the pain meds(which i know i need to do, its just not the right time for that though)
Crap sry for going off on a tangent. Anywways we shall see:/

when i moved to new jersey from georgia i had problems getting my adderall. i had trouble finding a dr who would be willing to prescribe any amphetamines at all. they just flat out wouldn't. i did eventually locate a dr willing but she refused to give me anywhere near the dosage i had been on, that was documented well by my previous dr. she would only ever prescribe a max of the recommended dosage for a pill, never ever over. so she would only give me one 30mg adderall. i had been taking a ton at that point, like 135mgs a day. i knew that it was unlikely i would get a dr to keep me on that amount but i needed to have at least 2-3 of the pills a day min. to help me any.

I've been on Ritalin, i think that may be easier to get but im not too sure. I liked vyvanse, the extended release dexamphetamine. i take dexamphetamine here in australia since they only have that and Ritalin for add meds. eventually i got my dr to up the dosage of the dexamphetamine to around 70mgs a day. which is helpful. but it took alot of time to get it there with him. initially he'd said a max of 40mgs.

the vyvanse was definitely better feeling than the immediate release dex. plus they would be more apt to give you vyvanse because it's something like a precursor drug to dex, it only turns into dexamphetamine once in the stomach. you can't snort it to get high off it. so maybe that would be a good idea to try for. its a good long lasting drug if your insurance covers it. if you are paying out of pocket id go for generic adderall or Ritalin.

    cheers--
    Em
