What is your best medicine for a cold? I'm sneezing quite a bit and the snot is flowing(Haha, sorry for the description). Oh, I'm also allergic to any sort of cold and cough medication/benadryl.

Sorry to hear you have a cold, summer colds suck!! Something I just discovered about 6 months ago is Colloidal Silver, it works as an antibiotic without the side effects!! I was sckeptical to say the least, but I had a nasty sinus infection about 2 months ago and I got some and got better, when in the past I would've gone to the doctor for antbiotics!! The brand I use is Source Naturals. Good Luck

Some sort of eucalyptus/menthol oil or balm; very, very soft tissues; lots of fluids and even more sympathy. None of the cold medicines really do anything anyway.

@mrbawkbachgawk (phew that's some name lol!)
That's too bad, colds suck that's for sure. I can't take heavy duty medications for cold/flu symptoms either--they make me loopy :S
Vick's for the stuffy nose--rub on the chest/back and under the nose--this stuff helps too if your nose gets sore from blowing.
Strepsil's throat lozenges are good--i like the honey lemon, they don't taste gross.
Buckley's cough syrup!
Other than that, chicken noodle soup and orange juice
Hope you feel better soon
Also I like using tea tree oil and/or eucalyptus oil to inhale when I get a cold.
And don't forget garlic -- raw if you can stand it... and others swear by zinc lozenges or Zicam.
There is also Emergen-C (sp?) which is like powdered vitamin C and other supplements.
Feel better soon!![]()

@everyone
Thanks for the suggestions, I haven't tried a number of them. I have yet to make it to the store, but I will pop out of my PJ's soon. I've been doing the whole drinking a lot of water, soup, and sleep thing lately.
I'm convinced water and rest is best. Drink as much water as you can and sleep as much as you can. Eat light and smart. The only symptom I treat with OTC stuff, vitamins, supplements etc is if a syptom (coughing or nausea for insstance) is preventing me from drinking water and/or sleeping. IMHO those other OTC things etc. detract from what the water is doing to help. Feel better!

I get upwards of 8-10 colds a year (or some other type of sickness). Thanks to my wife being a teacher and my daughter in full-time daycare. My immune system should be strong, but it never has a chance to recover. I try to take vitamin C, but it counteracts some of the other meds I'm on, so I mostly just fight the symptoms when they arrive -- dayquil, nyquil, nasal spray.
The other day I had a cold but with a horrible sore throat. I went to an afterhours clinic thinking I had strep again. (I got it twice last year). Just a throat and sinus infection, but the doctor gave me Prednisone and Omnicef. It was like nuking an ant hill, but it worked. Except for the prednisone rage and the Omnicef diarrhea.

Before bed, a snifter of Grand Marnier in the microwave for 15 seconds. When you bring it to your mouth to take a sip, the steam is so powerful you can't, but it opens you right up.
Continue doing that until you can get to the sip. Sip away. Sweet dreams.
As good as the original Nyquil but the steam really helps!
Buy the knock-off brand. No need for the real stuff.

maybe try goldenseal extract. that seems to be something of a miracle cure for a lot of people, and cold remedy is one of the things it's known for. i actually bought some for a different reason and it worked.
