Default Unaware had to sign for package and used a fake name

I should of done more homework but ivre ordered from this sisters site a few timers and never had to sign.

I probably wont be home when the mail man gets here so im guessing ill have to go down to the PO. Do you think I should tell that its my room mate and hes out of country for awhile, or do they HAVE to have proof that i am who i say i am.

Best case scenario I can catch the mail man doing his rounds. MY girlfriend is a stay at homee mom so i dont want the mail man knocking on the door because she doesnt approve of the cookies i ordered.

U think if i left a note in the mailbox with the tracking # that matches the package the mail man would do it and if i signed the name of who is on the package??

If nobody home, they'll leave a delivery attempt note. You just gotta bring the note to the PO and sign it. You having the note is proof enough for them it was sent to you. You won't have to show ID. Whenever I sign for anything from the mailman, I just scribble illegibly anyhow.

If you leave a note that no one is home, they will just leave the note without knocking...

You don't have to go to the post office. They left a slip in your mail box right? On it you can check off that you want it redelivered on such and such day. Then make sure you're home when the mailman comes and sign whatever name you put on the package when he hands the slip to you.

As far as I know, I believe you have to show ID at the post office to pick up a package. I've always had to show ID but maybe it's just my state. I always had to bring the yellow or pink slip they put in the mailbox and my driver's license.

I hate going to the post office so I always checked the box to have it redelivered and put the date I wanted it delivered and then put the slip back in the mailbox. If you can't be home to sign for the package ever then you might be in a quandry. I can't see them handing the package over without checking your ID.

Hi, @Lynx4 ! I think it must be a state thing when it comes to having to show ID. I have P.O. box, so when my Registered pkgs arrive, they put a slip in my box. I have to go to the counter to sign for my pkgs, of course, but they've never made me show ID. I don't mind going to the Post Office, because I live with some very nosy people, and one in particular has some VERY 'sticky fingers' when it comes to my mail.

Apologies for going off topic a bit here, as I realize this thread is not about those of us with P.O. boxes. I just wanted to comment on the ID thing.

I think I always had to show ID with the paper at the PO when picking up registered mail. But since it was in my name i never I never really worried about it. They never looked at my DL long and it was hard to tell if they were more focused on cofirming the address, name, or both, but they didn't ever seem to look at it to long. Anyway, It's been a while...I always try to be home if am expecting registered mail that requires signature.

FEDEX and UPS always wanted an ID when I went for a pickup if I missed them, and they seemed to look at it more thouroughly.

If it requires a signature upon delivery you can leave a note with your name, the date, the tracking number and your signature taped to the door. If the package is being delivered by Fed Ex, UPS, or DHL this definitely works, I have done it many times. Not sure if this works with USPS, but you could try it in the mailbox. GL!

In my experience, they knock unless they are either: supremely lazy or are sure that you are not home during the day.

Is it possible that you can call the vendor and have the delivery address changed to your place of work so that you can sign for it?

Or you know what? You can fill out a "Hold Mail" form and have your mail held at the post office for a couple days and go and pick it up yourself. Would your GF notice?

Could you talk to your local postman and ask him to hold on to any mail for you and not deliver it to your house. I know someone who used to do that.

I'm in Canada so i'm not sure but i think that even if you do a "Hold Mail" when you do go to pick it up you have to still show id? This wouldn't help if the name is different.

I think @Lynx4 has the best idea

    Good Luck

Personally I wouldn't use a fake name unless you shipped it to a fake name... maybe do that next time?

I had a problem with this once. So when I called and asked what time they closed, they told me 7. I said I have to stay at work, can I send my assistant down to pick it up. They said yes, just give him a signed note with the Tracking# on it, saying he has permission to pick it up for you. So I wrote myself a signed note from the name I had it sent too, and brought it in. They were very helpful.
