Where to look regarding BI sites and about the 50 post count

Here is the new reqt. for restricted side access just posted by Dr. B on the restricted side, I don't think it was posted anywhere else, just an FYI for new members- "......50 posts, 1 month's membership and 25 reputation points so that's what I think I'll implement to start off with, and look to toughen up the conditions down the road."

Several years ago I was the administrator of a board that was created because of the policy, at the time, where db would band people who would talk about their personal problems. Some of us saw the need for an annon. message board to help these folks with their personal problems. We divided the board into sections dealing with mental and physical pain Ans just fun discussions. Each section had one or more mods, who were qualified by profession or life experience.

We had deaths of members and arrests and weddings. The board was real life.

Our site was limited to invitation only for a year or so but we found that the board was dying. We had a section listing dr/patient referrals that required medical records and telephone consultations. Some might remember a Dr Bryson, who was a God send for many patients, He was prosecuted and went to prison. The man was not a quack, he was a Harvard Graduate. The DEA got the pharmacy too. The pharmacist was located ih Texas, and sought public office in Texas, as a Libertarian candidate. He exercised his freedom of speach rights and went to jail.

We used a minimum number of posts before one could view the the iop an

d op and other sections listing pharmacies. We would have people come on ans make 30 posts on their first day in order to qualify to view the pharmacy section.That was alright. we had a steer warning that you were on your own if you din't have a real script. Our real problemwas the folks that shared drugs and tried to sell drugs thru the im's. So we announced that they were not private and anyone found trying to make a deal was deleted, with prejudice. At one time we had over 1000 members.
And we constantly received contacts from op's offering us money to place ads and to place good comments about their services. When we wouldn't do that we were hit by hackers but fortunately for us our hackers and crackers were better. And they helped us because we were completely nonprofit.

I was hard work. I feel for the administrator and mods here and I ask that we new members try to put our feet in their shoes. That's some of my story. Cheers,l

@jook The board you describe sounds suspiciously like OLS. Is that the forum to which you're referring? I was a member there too. And good friends with its owner. You know I heard he should be back from vacation sometime in the next year or so. I miss that board, and my friend. It was a much more closely knit community than PR. I mean, PR is great and everything, it's just that, for me, it will never replace the other. I had one really good friend there, and it was a shame to see him leave. Tell me, did you stick around after things went South? Or did you flee like most members? Me, I stuck around. I stick by my friends, even when things go terribly wrong.

I was a member of OLS a loooong time ago. It was the first board I was a member of, before I found DB. I don't even remember what made me end up at DB; I think the other board disappeared or had a note up or something. It was totally different than any other board I've been on. But.....that feels like a lifetime ago.

I'm a recently new member,and I have no problem with the 50 post/1month rules, I know it sucks to the people that are in dire needs of meds for medical reasons, but at the same time it shoved lots of scammers away, and people who just want to use drugs for a good high.

I agree that the rules are helpful. Being required to post has made me feel more involved in the site and has helped me figure out where to look for the most helpful information. For example, I love the epilepsy forum and have found a lot of good information there. Hopefully, I have also contributed some useful information. The requirement is a good one.

How does one check their reputation score?

@ntrl - you get reputation points when someone clicks "like" or "helpful" on your posts. To find how many you have -- there is a link at the top of the forum that says "User CP". Click that link, scroll to the bottom of the page and look to the right.. there you will see how many reputation points you have accumulated. Hope this helped.

@ntrl, you're on the right track. Sharing information about failed transaction with the goal of preventing others from falling into the same trap will likely elicit "like" and "helpful" clicks from other members. Those clicks will earn you reputation point. We all welcome that kind of information.

I get the whole number of posting to view the BI sites but you should be able to view them and not able to post at least, I had over 300 posts on DB now i have to start over

I know @Va2323, we all had to start all over. I had over 1,500 posts and 7 years at DB and some members here had 5,000 posts or more at DB. We don't have DB so we have to start over like everyone else. The good thing is that many of us bring a lot of knowledge acquired at DB here and makes the site even more valuable. We know the scam sites and know the good sites so we can help other people.

No problem with the posting req or even the reputation point req in principle, but I have noticed that some people just like everything and helpful everything and quite a lot of really great informational posts get no love.

I feel like something should be done so that a person can't just like a million pointless posts a day and give their mates loads of points when others are overlooked because they're not in the club.

Don't worry, only the first 5 Helpfuls and 5 Likes that someone gives in a 24 hour period actually count. You can still hit Like or Helpful if you enjoyed someone's post, but it doesn't give them any reputation points if you've already given out your quota for that day.

I understand the impatience. I've been here eight months and still have not reached the required sixty posts. I have reached past my thirty reputation points though ; )
I have reached a state of zen acceptance, I'll get there when I get there. It shouldn't take most members as long as it's taken me. I guess I'm a bit shy or I am reticent to say anything unless I have something useful to say

How well did you score on your SAT's?
