Is Proscar any more or less effective than Propecia?

Is Proscar any more or less effective than Propecia?

I heard Proscar actually blocks more DHT than Propecia does, but then why would Proscar be cheaper? Also, since Proscar is 5mg a day as to Propecia's 1mg, would this damage my (perfectly healthy) prostate? I've been on Propecia for six months, will it affect my system if I jump from Propecia to Proscar? Is Proscar more or less effective with the hairline area?
