Propecia side effect: homosexual thoughts
Has anyone ever heard of a homosexual tendency side effect while taking propecia? Before taking the drug i was completely heterosexual with an active sex life and a girlfriend of 2.5 years. Since taking the drug homosexual thoughts have been creeping into my mind, and although I don't get turned on whatsoever by males, I much more strange and curious about it then i did before. thoughts?

I haven't heard of that side effect with propecia.

You might try an experiment and see what happens if you stop taking propecia for a given time, say, two weeks to a month to allow time for the propecia to clear your system.

By the way: it's common for people of one sexual orientation to have thoughts about the opposite orientation. I'm gay, have never had sex with a woman, do not plan to have sex with a woman -- and occasionally a thought (or a dream) about sex with a woman will pop into my mind. I accept it for what it is, laugh, and move on -- because I'm really not interested in having sex with a woman (even if I had the opportunity).

Don't psych yourself out with this. An occasional homosexual thought among straight males is VERY common.

It's easy to do the research yourself (or ask your doctor) on the medications' side effect profile. The PDR (Physician's Desk Reference) lists all report side effects no matter how rare or infrequent. Also you can ask your pharmacist to give you the PPI (Professional/Patient Insert) that is attached to every bottle of every medication. And of course you can look up the sam information on the net.

But, no, I have never heard of that side effect on any medication.

I had the exact same thing happen to me. Barely want to admit it even anonymously. Prior to taking propecia I never had a single gay inclination. Of course it is probably so rare that they don't even know about it, and wouldn't do anything if they could. It is a horrible way to live, and since even if it is common no guy is going to want to admit to it, the chances of their finding out just what the hell happened are slim.

Philtern and Jethro S:

As mentioned by Marq JPAA, cross-orientation thoughts and even impulses (and occasionally even action by some) are not unusual. Doesn't mean you're changing orientation. This could be entirely coincidence with your Propecia intake. It's possible that the increased self-confidence you're having after taking Propecia (even if it's just a placebo-effect) has freed you of some inhibitions. Perhaps you are able to compassionately relate to many different people better now than before. This could even improve your team spirit in the workplace.

In my opinion it would be a more serious side-effect if taking a drug made you begin to feel hostility, animosity, revulsion, or ambivalence toward folks whom you could have previously befriended.
