Muscle aches are a possible side effect of simvastatin (Zocor®), occurring in up to 1 percent of people who take the drug. Muscle aches are more common when treatment is first started and when the simvastatin dosage is increased. For most people taking simvastatin, muscle aches occur without any other more serious muscle symptoms.

If you develop muscle aches, weakness, tenderness, or pain (especially if you also have a fever or feel ill) while taking simvastatin, call your healthcare provider immediately. This could be a sign that you have a serious condition that needs treatment right away.

Out of all the statins used to treat high cholesterol;such as ( Lipitor, Mevacor) ; Simvastatin has the lowest incidence of side effects. Lipitor and Mevacor can cause kidney problems.aside from weight gain.

I'm on Zocor. I take it at night. So far; I don't have any side effect.

I have been on simvastatin for a few years with no side effects ,I think all you can do is give others a try until you find one that suits you. Not all medication suits all people but we just have to find the one that suits us.

Hi Kj1uk

I have had two types of statin in the last 4 years and on both occasions had to have them stopped within days of starting them. Vasostatin was given to me 4 years ago, the doctor had to stop it within a month as it felt like there were thousands of ants crawling under my skin. I was prescribed simvastatin 2 years ago. Never again! These drugs cost me my business, reduced my physical condition to a painful wreck and has left me with periods of shooting pain throughout my body. I took them under protest for 5 days, as I told the diabetic nurse that I could not take statins and explained the concerns with vasostatin two years earlier.
Now my doctor has put on my records that I must NOT under an circumstances be prescribed statins.

Also remember, family history plays a big part, also other areas of your life such as stress, smoking, weight gain etc can too cause your cholestrol to remain high.

I hope this helps, feel free to write to me if you need someone to talk to.

Wishing you a beautiful future. :-)
