Mas is on a distinguished road
please help Question about Pacemaker/Warfarin
Please help Im desperately worried about my Mum. She was admitted into hospital on Thursday night with AF (Atrial Fibrulation) irratic heart rate.

she has just been told she is going to need a pacemaker and will have to take Warfarin too. I love my mum so much and am desperatley worried. Anybody got any words of help for me please...feel like I cant cope :-(
shes not had an echo yet. The betablockers she was put on caused her heart to stop at regular intervals for up to 9 seconds. they are fitting a pacemaker through the week as still having palputations and her temporary pacemaker is kicking in :-(

Patients with atrial fibrillation and slow heart rate needs a pacemaker permanently to maintain an adequate, sufficient heart rate. This procedure improves atrial fibrillation symptoms, but does not cure the condition. Thus she still needs medication to reduce the risk of stroke.

However, many patients with atrial fibrillation have a pacemaker to allow the doctor to put them on medications---the pacemaker per se is ineffective for the AF part. If the patient has a tendency for a very slow heart rhythm & placed on and anti-arrhythmic medication, his heart rate may get so slow that he could get dizzy or pass out. So pacemakers are really used to allow the doctor to put the patient on an anti-arrhythmic medication.
