Default How long does it take for Coumadin (Warfarin) to make your hair fall out

I've already been bald from chemo once. I am really frustrated I'm going to lose my hair again. None of my doctors will give me an answer, my pharmacist said I probably wouldn't lose hair. I'm totally paranoid and upset and obsess over whether or not hair is coming out, or if it looks dry, or if my scalp hurts.

Someone, please give me a more concrete answer. I know we are all different, but can't anyone give me a ballpark figure?!
    Hello Phantom,
Thank you, but I don't think you read the question closely enough. I HAD cancer, I WAS bald from chemo. This happened 3 years ago. I am NOT on chemo right now, I was just saying I don't want to deal with hair loss AGAIN. If you google Coumadin, you would see PLENTY of sites where people mourn the EXTREME loss of their hair.
    For instance
    dvtforum.com
Thanks anyway. Anybody else have any input?

Hair loss is not associated with warfarin (Coumadin) as a listed side-effect. In fact, I have administered Coumadin to patients for years and never seen this. I think you are confusing the drug name with something else?

The hair loss in chemotherapy the regimen kills rapidly dividing cells. These cells are in the hair follicles, gut and the tumor. That is why people lose their hair during chemo.

Risks associated with the blood thinner, warfarin, are bleeding, hypersensitivity reactions (allergic reactions), dizziness, joint pain, changes in liver enzymes and more rarely, tissue necrosis (death of tissues and cells), etc. Warfarin only acts on the vitamin K related enzyme complex.
Since you don't specify your cancer type, I can't guess as to what chemotherapy regimen is being administered to you.
Blood thinners are generally never used during chemo, since the drugs also affect the bone marrow and usually result in a decrease in platelet production (which decreases your clotting ability)

Concur with the previous poster. Coumadin will have no effect on your hair.

Unfortunately, there is not much data on this issue, but some patients on warfarin (Coumadin) do report hair loss. However, it wouldn't hurt if you would look at other possible causes of hair loss, starting at the more popular ones like stress and also try to consult a dermatologist.

In the website warfarinfo, it says that "Hair loss appears to be the most common, warfarin-related side effect." However, popular medical and drug info site do not support this claim.
