An autoimmune disease is a condition wherein the immune system goes against your own cells. With psoriasis, it is a result of an overactive immune system, which triggers it to have an overproduction of skin, thus the scaly appearance. Some group it under the category of auto immune diseases. Others do not. It can belong since it somewhat attacks its own cells.

What causes psoriasis is still unknown although genetics has been found to play a role in its transmission.

On what medication to take, you need to consult your doctor. This disease is quite tricky to treat because there are still a lot of questions with regards to its cause, etc. I would suggest not taking anything first before you talk to your doctor.

Hope this helps.
