A question about the autoimmune disease Lupus..
If my mother had it what is the chance I may have it.
I was looking at signs and stuff for it and I have a few:
Joint pain, stiffness and swelling
Shortened breath
Chest Pain
Anxiety
Depression
Memory loss

Any help is appreciated

The only way to know for sure is to see a physician. Even if you don't have Lupus, you may have some other kind of disorder/disease causing these symptoms. See an internist.

"Relatives of people with Lupus have a five to twelve percent greater tendency to get the disease if family members have it. Only five percent of children born to a parent with Lupus will actually develop Lupus." - http://www.lupuscolorado.org/q&a.htm

To add to what the previous poster said, there are confirmatory tests to diagnose lupus. A doctor cannot accurately say "you have lupus" by just studying your family medical history and consultation alone. Lab tests are often utilized to help diagnose and sometimes a repeat or confirmatory test is still needed to eliminate other illnesses which may mimic lupus.
