Autoimmune Disease Or EDS?
Hi all, on 4/3/08 I got diagnosed with ehlers danlos syndrome (classical type), I'm guessing that explains some of my symptoms. But I still am having these other strange symptoms that I just feel is something else entirely. I get fatigued very easily. I find that if I do something (nothing even that strenuous) maybe like cleaning the house or something, I'll get out of breath, hot flashes, slight nausea. My body temp fluctuates like crazy. If I'm hot, I'm burning up. If I'm cold, I'll literally be shaking. Muscle aches, joint pain (that's not that bad though), shortness of breath, to walk up the stairs is exhausting for me. I get excessively thirsty sometimes, frequent urination, attacks of mucusy diarrhea (sometimes bloody), weakness, tremors/shakiness, dizzy spells and vomiting episodes/rotten egg burps (that I've gotten since I was little), gurgling in rectum and throat, acid reflux, just a general ill feeling. My WBC count was a little high (10.9) when I got a cbc done in december.
And my AGA levels for celiac were a little elevated, But my tTg levels and all were fine. I also get constipation and horrible allergies. I've never had allergies before. My eyes were a little inflamed last june (eye floaters), tingling/electric shock sensations. One time I tried to talk and I couldn't. It was as if someone put me on mute for a few seconds. And then sometimes I'll have speech issues/stuttering/fumbling up my word, memory problems, etc... I'm so sickof people saying it's in my head and it's just stress. I remember last year around late march or early april, my whole family and I got a horrible virus. Horrible body aches, vomiting, dry heaves, the works. And I've also been under a lot of stress, I know those two things can sometimes trigger autoimmune diseases/symptoms.
Anyway, on 5/7/07, I had gotten cut at a nail salon. I do have really bad ocd and I immediately though I contracted HIV. Well, I got tested 7 months after that and it came back negative. It was after that that my symptoms started showing up, little by little. With tension headaches, heartburn, tingling sensations, etc...Do you think autoimmune diseases can prolong the window period for HIV? Can autoimmune diseases cause false negatives? I've never engaged in any kind of sex, I don't do drugs/shoot up, I'm not even a drinker. Maybe a martini on new year's, but that's about it.
Do you think my result was accurate? Do these sound like autoimmune symptoms, or do you think it could all be related to EDS? Maybe that virus plus stress could've brought it on? My blood pressure gets a little low (from EDS), But other times is sky high. I was supposed to have an endoscopy done, but then again, I'm paranoid I'll catch something from unsterilized tools/dirty needles. My family doc wants me to have an x-ray done of my spine, an MRI of my head, & a gastric emptying scan. I already had a CT and MRI scan done last year because of my headaches. Don't all these x-rays and stuff put me at risk for developing cancer? Sorry for all the questions. Thanks for any help you can give me!
I'm 20 BTW.

It seems that even at a young age of 20, you are already becoming very concerned with your health. And that's good although it may make you a bit paranoid on the sicknesses you can get.

Try to remember that when an illness mentions a certain condition as a probable cause, it just means that there is still no verified, documented, exact cause for the illness and thus anything can lead to it. This can be viewed two ways. First, you can feel that everything is a cause for some serious condition and thus make you scared to do anything anymore because everything is a risk or cause fro sickness. On the other hand, you may treat it like since whatever you do may lead to this certain illness, then you might as well do what you want since you will contract the disease anyway.

It is good to be cautious but it is something else to be overly cautious. HIV is a viral disease that can be transferred through body fluids, especially blood which is most potent, nothing else.

X-rays can put you at risk for cancer if you have it done like every week to every month. But if you just have it a couple of times, then it is quite safe.

Relax. You may be too stressed worrying over nothing. Sometimes, the more you think of a certain condition, the more likely you are to develop it. Mind over matter, as they say.

Hope this helps.
