Well, I stopped by my local gym just recently to inquire about membership. Imagine my surprise when I found out they have a STRICT NO SMOKING policy and, as if that weren't bad enough, the only thing they serve at the bar is smoothies and juice! They wouldn't even entertain the idea of me bringing my own ashtray and Stoli Vodka to make those overpriced smoothies go down better! Needless to say, I threw my Martini in the sales managers face and stubbed out my Marlboro on a treadmill on my way out.

I got AFAA when my ACE expired, and I totally hear you with the zumba lol. They are only looking for money not results, but they brainwash to make people think otherwise.

Swimming is a full body work out, do you ever get sore from it, and if so what muscles seem to take the brunt of it?

No, no soreness. You can start at 20 min a day and work up from there.Swimming is a full body work out, do you ever get sore from it,
and if so what muscles seem to take the brunt of it?
This club has 2 pools, and the other one is for water aerobics which is good too.
Alot of elderly folk with arthritis etc. use that pool and workout with plastic noodles & weights.
@smokinjoe,
I should've been more specific; I don't like showering with other men. I was molested in junior high in the shower by my gym teacher. Public showers like that or even at an amusement park freak me out. If I have no choice, I'm poppin xanax like they're M&ms.
On the other hand, private showers with women are another thing, so long as their are grab rails.
Never touched a weight in my life.....when folks ask me if I lift weights...I say yes....everytime I take a pee...lol!

True, but two hours for a sitter is almost my monthly membership dues and since we have courtesy membership at other Y's in the area technically I could just hop all over town and have childcare for the day! Anyway, he will do his workout without me but I won't do mine without him. He is really great about coming up with interesting work outs and keeping me motivated where I would just say after 5 minutes, eff this, I'm going to get a donut.

That sounds like a good situation you have going. Do you both actually lift weights or just use machines? Not saying your both great looking, because I don't know, but usually the really good looking couples work out together, so I'm assuming you both are in good shape.
Good thing I found my glasses. You were almost treated to TMI about my last pap smear !
But anyway,
I've had a gym membership, a racquet club membership, a swim club membership, a golf club membership and never used ANY of them often enough to justify the membership fees.
Now, I walk for a half hour (give or take) every day, preferably outside and in the sunshine.
Alternately, on the treadmill watching (ironically) the cooking channel !

Yes, I'm ultra glad you got out your glasses. Doesn't that torture you watching the cooking channel on the treadmill? Anyways one of the gym's I used to manage trainers at was in an expensive area and 60% of the members didn't go. The owner got a kick out of it and loved his $40 yearly fee for no reason in the summer and used to go take his family to las vegas for a month with it.
Ooooh I like that....Let's just go with us being a good looking couple
On a serious note, I am naturally thin, always have been. I have my beauty crosses to bare but weight is not one of them. As for my husband, he is a former marine so if he does not work out then he feels horrible (weirdo). I like both machines and weights but I would say husband prefers weights. We use the kettle bell and medicine ball a lot. Plus he has created some make shift boxes at home for us to use for step ups. I like the idea of crossfit because you really don't need a lot to do it.

Hey there brother,
Yeah, I am an avid weightlifting. I was pretty goddamn overweight as a child, and my Dr. scared the shit out of me when I was a kid. So by the time I was 18, I had taken up running like a mad man, and was down to 165 at 5'11. Then, I discovered the gym.
I hopelessly overtrained, and didn't make much progress. Which is normal for a budding meathead.
Then, after graduating high school, I began to really study and learn the body-building basics.
I enlisted in the army, and spent 3 years weight training when I could. Which was not very often.
But, upon my honourable discharge, I finally got it right, and am currently sitting at 207, a little higher BF% than I would like, but am currently heading up to 215 on a relatively clean bulk.
Hit the weights 2 days on, then 1 off. Follow a pretty classic split, though I do quads by themselves, and hams and calves by themselves.
Anyway, I'm babbling on.
Basically, I love to lift.
Thanks for reading.

My goal is 215lbs, but to do it slowly, and naturally. I have used "vitamins" before but am intent on doing it without them. Not that I have anything against them, they are great.
Clean bulk: just means eating cleans 90% of the time, instead of using junk food and shitty quality grub to bulk up quickly and get fat and nasty. Those kind of bulks always leave people looking like garbage.
I would say I definitely am more volume based, using the usual 4 sets of exercises, 3-4 sets of each, 8-15 reps, depending on bodypart.
I have done a WestSide Barbell split when a buddy of mine was prepping for a powerlifting meet and wanted a training partner. It was fun, but I didn't feel worked enough, and the low volume left me feeling weird.
At the end of the day, a sick pump is one of my favourite things.
To be honest, my training is usually spot on, except uduring exams, when I cut down my training to 45 minutes, 4 times a week at best, because of all the studying I need to do.
Its really my diet that needs work, not because I eat shitty, but because I don't prepare meals, or eat enough. I know, whine whine whine.
I dont really have a sweet tooth, and I prefer a good steak over a Mcdonald's cheeseburger.
But work/school are always my excuses.
What kind of training do you get into?
And at 250, that is a big man, and if you're lean then even better.
"A person who has never made a mistake, has never tried anything new."

Right now I'm in recovery with a 5 day a week bodybuilding routine. And about the clean bulk I only questioned because everyone perceives a clean bulk as a different thing (some think its low fat, some think low carb, some think it means no sweets, some thinks it mean only home cooked food, and the most common one that makes no sense are the people who say they ordered a steak and potatoes with broccoli at restaurants 3 days a week, eat from subway, and only drink hard liquor)
One of my many credentials is being a certified nutritionist and if you wanted my humble opinion on gaining weight it comes down to calories, not what your opinion of clean is. However, it's good to hear you stay away from junk that helps keep the body a little healthier.
And my BF is above 15% right now so I'm not necessarily lean, but I cannot diet due to an extremely messed up GI. Although I'm not sloppy looking you can smell the muscle on me haha. Last time I had my 8 pack I was 230 and ate hungry man meals, double cheese burgers, and drank weight gainers, oh and telling my clients they couldn't eat that stuff lol (my genetics allow you to see 6 around 12% bf and 8 around 9-10%)
rippedhugensexy, geez, 5,11" and 250lb, that's pretty damn big. Although we use the metric system here I know that's around 110kg. I'd expect someone in the 6'6' area to be that weight, but as they say, muscle weighs more than fat.
I've been hitting the gym now for 15 years (4 days a week) and I'm only around 180lb (6,0'')... But then again my diet is absolutely crap and I'd say my messed up genetics probably has something to do with it too... lol
