Default Phentermine (adipex-p / duromine) side effects, who's had them?

I was wondering if anyone had suffered any adverse effects from taking generic phentermine or branded duromine / adipex-p ?

The warning against this drug are certainly an eyebrow raiser, but how common are they really?

I am expecting an elevation in heart rate and energy boost? But can anyone confirm the other nasty effects are rare?

    What are your personal experiences?

I have the dry mouth, that's really the only side effect I've gotten so far. I don't have a way to check my heart rate, but I haven't felt anything funny - like when I take ephedrine or clenbuterol I can definitely feel my heart rate go up, I don't even feel that on phentermine.

    Thank you @gsg909

Some of the warnings on the websites offering phentermine
    Are a bit off putting.

I don't usually suffer side effects and hopefully won't when
    I begin phentermine.

I took it for a few days but unfortunately it had an adverse affect with something else that I was taking so I stopped.

My heart rate elevated about 30 beats per minute at complete and total rest. That shocked the hell out of me so much, I thought the machine that I was using was broken. Did it manually, same result.

I also experience "phen rage" so that's when I stopped.

Plenty of good reviews for other people though.

I actually only experience the "phen rage" if I let my blood sugar drop too low so I always keep a food diary when on Phen so I am sure to be eating enough to keep my body fueled. Probably the only serious side effect I have expereinced in years of on and off phen use is hair loss. As soon as I am off it the regrowth starts but while on it I notice a serious thinning of the hair. One of the hair loss products for women will help keep thsi from happening if you stay on it!

@Viva-la-blonde I have been taking Phentermine for the last 3 days and thought I'd update u on all side effects I have experienced good & bad.

First day I couldn't sleep but I had green tea & coffee, so the next two days I've cut these out and slept fine. I have also had a dry mouth but this is good for me as it gets me drinking loads.

I've been in a great mood the kids aren't doing my head in (which they normally would especially with this bank holiday). I have huge increased energy levels so really pushed myself at the gym this weekend and zero appetite. All I've done is eat healthly to keep my body fuelled no cravings or feeling hungry. Highly recommend it! We are off to Brighton today with the kids so I won't be able to avoid fish & chips but this would be a good time to use Xenical as well if I have a few left.

I'm like you and trying to get back into my Pre preg jeans but with this stuff I don't think it will take long.

Hope that helps in your decision of which weight loss aid to use.

    Thanks Jod

did have issues, wasnt that impressed but it wasnt bad - the serious cardic changes were from fenfluramine - on its own phenteramin didnt seem to cause cardia problems.

Attempted to complete a prescription years ago when I needed to shed a few excess pounds along with watching the calories and hitting the treadmill. I will say, however, pharmacologically the way the drug works by supressing the appetite and boosting your energy I'm pretty sure remains a mystery. The literature even eludes to this fact and there's no doubt it's a stimulant medication. Yes, taken as directed and with the extra energy it provides you, you'll drop the weight. There are so many phentermine clinics in my area it's nuts. You walk in, get weighed, fill out some medical history paperwork, meet with an M.D. and it's pretty much #60 tabs of generic phentermine (Adipex-P) for around $100. Whole visit, probably 10 minutes tops. Yes, folks, phentermine pill mills.

I do know that when I used the drug, I had to half the recommended dosage cause I was getting WAY TOO overstimulated. The short tempers, "phenenterine rage" is a real phenomenon. Over the course of treatment your body adjusts to the medication and it begins to lose it's effectiveness. It's not meant by any means as a maintenance medication and I suffered heart palpitations that scared me as well. I also noticed it elevated my blood pressure and would probably guess (although I'm not a physician) the medication is giving your heart and valves a healthy workout as well. I'm not big into stimulants of ANY kind and I even hate to take pseudophed when congested cause I feel all edgy. Then again, I'm a pretty high-strung individual to begin with. I couldn't finish the prescription and flushed the remaining tabs. If a schedule IV drug like phentermine is this stimulating/effective on me, I'd really hate to experience a schedule II amphetamine or something like meth. Guess I'm just not cut out for it. I would recommend regular monitoring, blood pressure checks, etc., while I took the medication. I know it's not phen-fen but still, in my opinion, not a medication that should be taken lightly without proper monitoring. Just my opinion here based on personal experience.

Yes, in the short-term, the weight will drop but it's all about keeping it off after quitting the medication you need be concerned with. And, unfortunately this requires a lifestyle change in both diet and exercise.

I tried it years ago and had to switch to Vyvanse. The phentermine made me extremely jittery. Tried to wait it out for about a week to see if things settled, but a week later nothing had improved.

@MattM, have you found any side effects on Vyvanse? And is it as effective as phentermine?
Personally i'm a bit cautious about trying phentermine, a friend of mine went on it and he suddenly seemed to become overly obnoxious and rude.. haha don't know if the two are directly related though...

The Vyvanse worked great - I was a little jittery for the first 2-3 days - we titrated up quickly from 35(?)mg to 70. But the nervous energy wore off quickly, my concentration was a 1000x better, and the weight melted off.

My one piece of advice about phentermine, is just to let the medicine work. If me, it just increased my willpower. You cant take it and expect to start shedding pounds. It will curb your appetite, you just need to go with it - if you're hungry, eat - but dont eat and expecting the phentermine to do the work.

I had a girlfriend who would take it a couple weeks before she went to the beach. Boy did she become a super duper 'meany' (for lack of better words). Everything that I done was amplified 10x in her mind. She even noticed this and she wouldn't take it anymore. I wanted to try the stuff for shizz and giggles, I took a half of the 37.5mg and stayed up 48hrs playing halo. But I was 160lbs at the time and high strung.

Phentermine did the same to me, and gave me several obsessive habits, one of which was skin picking (never had a problem with that before). Now I've got scars on my face from it, and I gained all the weight back anyhow... this was around 15 years ago.

@simonet we started at 30 (or 35mg cant remember) and worked up to 70mg over a week. I was a little jittery the first few days but then I just felt normal - could think clear, weight dropped off... it was all good
