Unhappy 2 Wisdom Teeth Extracted Tomorrow!

Early tomorrow morning I am getting my top two wisdom teeth removed. The first time I had a wisdom tooth removed, I was inexperienced... lol. The first time, maybe it was just my situation but after the surgery and my tooth was removed. I finished signing a couple papers, got my prescriptions, and went straight for the pharmacy! Well that wasn't good enough. I blame it mostly on the pharmacy and them taking their time and a mistake with the pharmacy address it was supposed to be filled. Ended up being in excruciating pain for about an hour while I waited for pain meds.. Not cool.

This time, I have a small stock of Lortabs to hold me over til I get my scripts filled.

Other than that, my first experience wasn't too bad besides having to pay out of pocket. $400 for one tooth.

This time I did my research, quoted me $350 for two wisdom teeth this time, not bad!

Hopefully my new dentist is not strict with his prescriptions. My last dentist cut me off before my pain was gone, told me to take some ibuprofen!!! i was pissed... I don't even like painkillers. But the one time I need them, they wanna be stingy! Damn shame.... lol. Actually had to pay $5 a pill on the "streets" for some Vicodin to hold off the pain until it went away.

    Welcome to America!!

I have found dentists to be LEAST likely to be sympathetic because they have nothing to gain by giving you a good script and do not want to be investigated and have their gold mine shut down.

Funny story about when I had my widsom teeth taken out. I was going to a dentist that I knew several people that had gone to, and all had gotten prescriptions for pain meds. I was all excited, because at the time I never took anything regularly and had only had a couple Vicodin once prior to that and I was all excited to get some.

Anyways come out of surgery, my girlfriend is driving me home and I'm confused as to why I was given no scripts. About 15 minutes later when I finally was back alive fully, my girlfriend who was driving me home told me that she assumes I didn't get any prescription, because in the post op room or whatever they call it, when I was just waking back up from being put under, I apparently was talking to the nurses about how excited I was to get pain meds. She said I rambled on about it for a few minutes. Stupid me! Actually stupid post-anesthesia.

I've had a lot of teeth pulled and they normally
give me Vicodin 7.5/500 or 750? Can't recall the tylenol qty.
Anyway they give you normally 4 days worth #16
    for me.

Fortunately Mrs Rowell has the 5/500 script
so she lends me one for that waiting period at the pharmacy
which I hated too! Good luck.

I can remember the "pleasure" of having all FOUR of my wisdom teeth pulled as a teen. I was scared shi*less and after getting all nice and comfy in the over-sized dental chair, they started an IV saline drip. I didn't realize why the DMD had all the "instruments" discreetly covered from view prior to the procedure until it was all over with. Viewed the equipment after the extractions and they truly looked like torture devices, twisted metal tips for digging into gum, scalpels, even had to crack a few and extract them via the roots. Glad I was hit HARD with the pentothal and shot up nice and good with novocaine when they finally revived me. I remember having to stay in office for like 30 minutes or something like that after it was all over with (in a darkened room) to be observed then released to go home. Got a script for #20 Tylox caps and honestly really didn't need but a few of them. Had really great experience but cannot imagine having it done without being put under and then handed a measly script for like 800mg ibuprofen or something. Talking about pissed!

Could anyone maybe direct a person to some good resources for having an impacted wisdom tooth removed? I've been getting quotes of 1000-1200 to remove one impacted tooth.

I can't see it really being that costly and I'm offering cash upfront to have it done since I don't have dental.

I've done tons of research and the best I can find is a dental school, but the wait is too long seeing as it is pushing against a crown and it feels like it is tearing the crown from my gum line...

I've searched around my hometown and found nothing, but this community always has good advice, heck I would be willing to jump on a plane and have all four removed at once if the cost was right...Anyone got any ideas...lol?

I don't remember much post-op when I was still in there...I didn't really come to until the car ride home. But my girlfriend at the time told me the doctor said there was a chunk of one of them that he couldn't get out. He told her he "poked, prodded, drilled, tugged, and couldn't get the piece out and said if he did anymore he was worried he was going to rip some blood vessel open. Sounded a lot worse than it was, my regular dentist at my next appointment told me it wouldn't effect me in any way in the future. So I just have a random chunk of a wisdom tooth just chillin in there somewhere. So yeah, basically I couldn't imagine having to do it without being put under either.

Just listen to what they say and don't smoke or drink from a straw or make any sucking motions... I got dry sockets (even though I didn't do any of the above) and it was the most pain I had ever been in up to that point. And they still wouldn't give me any meds

That seems to me to be a very good price for two extractions in the 512 area. Maybe the price is lower because the other two teeth aren't really impacted. If that's the case, you'll probably have less pain too.

    Hope it goes well!

I, too, had all four wisdom teeth extracted in around age 12. I was really young - I got all of my teeth *very* early. I started teething @ 6 weeks which is basically unheard of! I had to get them yanked to get my braces - they were crowding the rest of my teeth. I had an IV - didn't see the instruments, etc. My only salient memory of that experience was just how gross it was - the bloody cotton, the nasty breath. I don't remember the med but I bet my mother was stingy with them, LOL. Good luck!

I had to get all four wisdom teeth surgically removed when I was 12 weeks pregnant but it was 100% necessary and yes I was put under. Baby was fine and I took pain killers for a few days. However the worst ever was the constant morning sickness while trying to heal the open wounds. I was lucky I got no dry sockets. Whew!

By the way I wasn't put under--I see absolutely no reason to be put under anaesthetic to get something as routine as a wisdom teeth removal. Major surgery, yes, but I would avoid it for anything else. SOmetimes people don't react well to anaesthetic--there's a very small chance you could die, but it's still a chance. And I wouldn't want to die from getting my wisdom teeth out. Anaesthesiology is STILL not an exact science. Also, if you get put under it will be more expensive, which is a consideration if you don't have health insurance like moi.

Vicodins don't really do shit for me anymore. Sounds weird, but I think my kratom tolerance and access to good Kratom ****ed it up for me. The last time I had Vicodin 10s, they gave me HORRIBLE nightmares, I mean horrible, and barely did anything for me "high"-wise. Yuck.

I don't mean to sound unkind, but it would appear that the OP is seeking some helpful information as regards wisdom tooth removal and I have seen several helpful posts in response and then I came across yours.

Your drug use or abuse should I posit, is not particularly helpful as concerns dental work. I'm entirely unclear what Kratom or getting high from Vicodin has to do with dental work, but perhaps you thought you were posting in the "How to Abuse Opiates Thread" ; I don't really know.

And try to get dry socket??? Really?? If you would prefer the pain of dry socket to going without more drugs, you should seriously take a hard look at that thinking process. It will not, in the end, serve you well.

I sincerely hope you get some help and I do wish you well.

Look, the original poster made it pretty clear to me that he/she was interested in getting their wisdom teeth pulled partly because of the pain meds they would receive. DId you not pick up on that??

As far as dry sockets go, I didn't give them to myself on purpose. They were actually really painful, and I'm glad I got that second bottle of Vicodin. My suggesting that the poster give themself dry sockets was A GODDAMN JOKE, and I'm sorry that you take everything so seriously. Didn't I say "haha" after I said it?? You are so sanctimonious. You might not be "trying to be unkind", but you do come off as incredibly holier than thou. Was that your intention? Geez.

I think maybe you need to calm down and refrain from taking everything I say completely seriously. There is no room for reading between the lines here on the internet, and it's difficult to guess the intent with which someone is saying something, so I'll give you that excuse. I'm going to go back and remove whatever it was I said about Kratom, as you are right, it doesn't apply to the original post. Other than that, I don't really see how anything I said was out of line--but then again I'm making that assumption in the belief that most people on here have a sense of humor.

I'm not surprised. Dental expenses are off the map. Are you AARP? LOL. Search the net and see what you come up with.

    It really is that costly.

@billyboy1965; yes it is that costly it effin crazy. I live in a fairly affluent community, but I'm actually not as well of as most of the folk that live around me.

I think living in a area with such a high living standard really jacks up the cost. I'm thinking I'll just head towards poorer community because dental cost are reduced depending on the cost of living. My mom just put the thought in my head after I made the post...gotta love your momma, always has some sweet advice. I would think the dental care would still have to meet a certain standard...right?

@Lucylicious I did not pick up that OP was getting teeth pulled partly so he/she could obtain pain meds. I may have missed something but if that is the case that is pretty damn extreme.
