Dr in coasta rica

Anyone know what the DR's are like in Jaco Coasta Rica. I got here yesterday & I went o pharmacy & they old me I needed to see a DR for Xanax. I was under impression it was like Mexico. Anyone seen a DR in Coasta Rica before to get a script filled? I will try today even though it's a Sunday. If anyone has advice please let me know.

@Tbm I did a little research and this is what I came up with...In the larger towns like San Jose and Jaco, chances are you will need a prescription from a local doctor, which is not hard to do. A office visit will cost you around $50US. However, in the smaller towns that are not hammered with tourist dollars, just about any drug store will sell you xanax and other prescription drugs, including some of narcotic ingredients. But expect to pay more than Gringo prices. I hope this helps.. Maybe someone else has a better answer.

Be careful. I got some in Mexico and it was very fake. If you order online, at least you have these reviews to follow.

@Tbm- I was just there a year ago. You will need a prescription most everywhere but they are SOOO easily obtained. The place I used was golfito and if you take the high way vs. the beach road it'd be about 2 hours by bus which I'm sure u know is cheap as dirt. In any case I'm sure it's the same everywhere. My tactics were this. I told the Doctora(she was cute too lol) that my meds were expired and because of this customs took them from me. She asked what I was on and I said 1mg xanax 3x daily. She wrote me a script for 90 and I was out the door. Prices are similar at the pharmacy to us but doc visit costs about 35 depending on where you are. This also helps a lot if you come back. Bring your valid prescription into a US doc office and tell them you had been there for 2 years and prescribed this med the whole time and it's that easy to get a us script! Also, I went to 2 doctors in one day cuz I figured they're a little behind on monitoring programs lol... I would assume you could easily say you planned on travelling to SA and request a 90 day supply as well... DON'T forget to bring your passport. I had mine but I don't know what would happen if not

Hey @Tbm if you decide to make the trip to golfito let me know as I might still have a business card with the doctora I saw there with her address on it.. It was pretty funny lol it was like the downstairs of he house and the cab dropped me at the front door. I had to ring a bell til she head me and let me in. Kinda sucked though cuz i couldn't find a cab back-only about a 10 minute walk and I didn't mind. I FUC*IN LOVE THAT COUNTRY. Pavones and herradura are my favorite spots cuz I'm a surfer. If you're still in jaco and you havent been herradura is right around the corner and theres a specific tree right at the mouth of the inlet thats beautiful. It's been in like 6 or 7 surf videos I've seen..

Yes everything went well. I saw DR and showed him empty script bottles he refilled me gladly for 90 days. I was also able to get everything I needed for $300.00 wow that was easy!

I've been there mant times , I have been to jaco but I stay at thesportsman in the gringo gulch .there is a bunch of pharmacies up the hill near Calderon hospital .I go there for testosterone shots ,vitamin b shots ,Cialis (don't buy generic Viagra yournhead will swell) also you can buy Valium and codeine without a script .have fun stop by hotel delrey and say hi to the chicas for me .

@Tbm, PURA VIDA MAI, glad you got sorted but damn $300? Just curous what'd you end up getting cuz my branded tafil was like $40 for 90 tabs and my visit with the doc cost around $75..

I was able to buy some alprazolam & percodan (pretty cheap) from a small gift shop when my ex and I was there about 10 yeas ago. LOTS of these will have stuff if you ask...and if they don't they can always point you to one that does.

Gosh Sounds nice and lax I this country has been on my travel destination want list for some time. Glad to know I can get some codeine and etc pretty easy, and bring doctor notes and hopefully fair even better. Sounds like an awesome country from everything I have heard.

In Mexico they are rather aggressive, but are huge sources of information to both buy what you want, and stay out of trouble. I'm sure Costa Rica is similar. An interesting source to actually plan on using but they KNOW things.

Yeah the surfing is good in Jaco Costa Rica. To stay on topic though, I was just there last December and a pharmacy runs a script biz with a dr named Hector Salgado Artigas, not sure if that is how his name is supposed to be written, most people down there have 3 or 4 words in their name. Anyhow, over by Copacabana is a pharmacy called Farmacia Sofia and just tell them what you want and the dr comes and signs the script. The script costs in US$20 and then the pharmacy has their pill price. This dr is a no questions asked and you are on your way.

Like others have said, you can get codeine without a script anywhere but if you are needing something stronger and in Jaco, that is the place to go. The San Jose area is totally different. For example, a year ago when I went for Easter, we could get tramadol in Jaco just for the asking, but when I stayed in San Jose the night before our plane left, I tried to get a few more to take back home but all the pharmacies in San Jose wanted a script. So beach towns tend to be more lax for tourists and of course knowing dr Hector helps too
