What is the best muscle relaxant med for trigger point muscle pain
I've just self diagnosed myself with an active trigger point in my left thoracic back. My doc is clueless... I've had this condition for 5 months, with constant muscle tightness/nerve pinching. I tried all OTC meds, 1000mg aspirin w/ 60mg caffeine 2 times a day was the only thing that put a dent in my pain until I tried clonazepam 1mg daily. I did not have a script when I tried it but it has worked wonders. With great difficulty, I convinced my doc to prescribe it to me. I don't think he will do it again. This is the first pain relief i've had in 5 months! The last 2 weeks have been like i'm a new person. What else could I get for chronic muscle tightness? I've also tried skelaxin and it didn't work at all. I'm not looking for therapy here. I just want info about meds for chronic muscle tightness, not anything temporary. Thanks.

Try Soma, it will relax any muscle, 350 mg, 3 to 4 times a day. My wife takes it but only give her two a day. They will make you sleepy. About a month ago I had some of the worst muscle cramps in my legs that I ever had. I took just one of the Soma's and I slept for 6 hours or so, but the muscle cramps were gone and haven't any cramps in those muscles since. No way would I ever take 1000 mg of aspirin, or any other drug at that level. It would seem to me that you should want to find the problem in that area, rather than taking any kind of meds. Why don't you go to a chiroprator and let him/her xray the pain area. You might just need a slight minor adjustment. Then it will be gone and you won't need any pain meds or relaxers. What I do when I have a sore or painful back is, I have my wife lay some hot moist heat, like a towel soaked in hot hot water, wrung out and then placed on my back. I have her do this a few times until the skin turns slightly red. I have her feel along both sides of my spine muscles, and if she finds what feels like a knot, I have her take her thumb or point of her elbow, and put pressure on the knot. It will hurt, but when she is done, it doesn't hurt. She then massages both sides of my spine using Aspercreme and in just a little while it feels great. I am usually on the computer quite a bit, and when I get into those addicting games, my back begins to hurt in the muscle next to my shoulder blade. Sometimes I'll set in the chair with a gel ice pack and lay against the area, while I am playing the games. May be your problem also. Good luck to you sir.
