    Default Nostaligic Music

I think most people have one or more favorite songs that take them back to some pleasant point in time. Sometimes the song was done long after the memory it invokes but it has nostalgia written all over it.

Below are inks to two of my favorites. The first is Don Henley's (of Eagles fame) 'The Boys of Summer' and the Second is the Moody Blues' 'In Your Wildest Dreams' Both are tremendous then and now look backs ... with touches of subtle near genius. Watch carefully in The Boys of Summer when Henley sings "Don't look back you can never look back". I fell in love with the actress in the Moodies video (the present day/mature version of the lady) .. all those years ago.

Both are worth a watch and listen if you ave a few free minutes.

Don Henley - The Boys Of Summer (Official Music Video) - YouTube

The Moody Blues - Your Wildest Dreams - YouTube

Anyone else have those songs that take you back to a tiem before the song as written .. or is it just me?

@Bungalobill - I love the 'Boy's of Summer' track. That really brings me back to the early 80's. 1984 to be exact. Bringing me back to the first time hearing this song flying on a jet from Vancouver to Freeport, Bahama's. Air Canada was playing it on the one channel of their inflight radio channels and I remember listening to I over and over until we arrived there. It was definitely my theme song for that summer.

'Your Wildest Dreams' is an awesome song too. That whole Moody Blues album is beauty. Thanks for bring me back to my childhood. There was so much great music back then.

Its not just you that has music takes you back to a certain time in your life when you listen to it. I am the same way with older songs bringing back the memories for me too. That's why I still love 70's and 80's music so much. A time when life was easier and more care free!!!!

Good stuff isn't it? Both songs spoke to then and now issues that have been around since .. who knows. In Your Wildest Dreams: Takes us back to a special romantic interest from our yonger days. I wonder if they think about it sometimes as I do.

The Boys of Summer: The grown business man taking a nostaligic and maybe painful look back. Some people didn't get the little boy they'd flash to every now and again playing the drums. Don Henley was the Eagles drummer.

Despite having a huge knowledge of all sorts of Jazz from the 20s onwards, I'm going to point out the most obvious one:

Paul Simon. Especially his 'Still Crazy After All These Years' album. If this doesn't make anyone feel sentimental I don't think anyone will.

A great later jazz instrumental is the song, 'Infant Eyes', by Wayne Shorter. Who needs words to feel sentimental? From the album 'Speak No Evil'.

I have two songs that bring me back---and still make my eyes tear up when I hear them.
Blind Faith's 'Can't Find My Way Home'
    and
Mountain's 'Theme for an Imaginary Western'

agram, I have no knowledge of jazz .. although my father was big on it. There was/still is I think a bluegrass/rockabilly/a little jazz fusion band called The Goose Creek Symphony. One of the somgs on their Oso Special album (age alert) was a variant of the Simon tune you mentioned. It was called "Still Dumb after all these years"

There was a time when I prided myself on having one of the largest collections of Goose Creek Symphony music in Central Florida. I was going to marry the girl taht was impressed by that.

@Blockhead I still think that song is hilarious: I can not help myself by posting the lyrics.
    Artist: King Missile
    Song: Detatchable Penis

This comes in handy a lot of the time.
I can leave it home, when I think it's gonna get me in trouble,
or I can rent it out, when I don't need it.
But now and then I go to a party, get drunk,
and the next morning I can't for the life of me
remember what I did with it.
First I looked around my apartment, and I couldn't find it.
So I called up the place where the party was,
    they hadn't seen it either.
I asked them to check the medicine cabinet
'cause for some reason I leave it there sometimes
    But not this time.
So I told them if it pops up to let me know.
I called a few people who were at the party,
but they were no help either.
I was starting to get desperate.
I really don't like being without my penis for too long.
It makes me feel like less of a man,
and I really hate having to sit down every time I take a leak.
After a few hours of searching the house,
and calling everyone I could think of,
I was starting to get very depressed,
so I went to the Kiev, and ate breakfast.
Then, as I walked down Second Avenue towards St. Mark's Place,
where all those people sell used books and other junk on the street,
I saw my penis lying on a blanket
next to a broken toaster oven.
    Some guy was selling it.
I had to buy it off him.
He wanted twenty-two bucks, but I talked him down to seventeen.
I took it home, washed it off,
and put it back on. I was happy again. Complete.
People sometimes tell me I should get it permanently attached,
    but I don't know.
Even though sometimes it's a pain in the ass,
I like having a detachable penis.

Frick'in classic. Blockhead~You are being to grow on me~Takes time for me to do that~Plus I fear, it may not be such a good thing : )

I can't list just one because music is and has been a huge part of my life.

Just one fix and Jesus built my hotrod~Ministry

Anything by Alice in Chains, I met the band along with Pearl Jam in Seattle (Nicest guys you ever want to meet)~RIP Layne, Mike Starr. Especially Pearl Jam.

    Metallica always and forever.

    B 52's

    The Cure

And growing up in the 70's~Most anything from that era~minus disco, Cher, or any other overplayed sappy song. Mainly early punk.

WAY to many to list, as I have eclectic tastes in music.

Scary nostalgia music: nothing beats Thriller by MJ. I remember it's first showing on Fox at midnight all those years ago. And how I refused to sleep alone for months after seeing it!

That said, any MJ track takes me back to a specific place in time and I can usually recall the mood and memories with ease. Very pleasant memories when listening to MJ. Not to mention his music videos have always been full of awesome
