Default rash with scabs on my bottom!

I must trust folks here to talk about this! Besides the bad head and neck pain today: this is really smarting bad. I don't want to move and I can't get comfortable. It isn't a bed sore. I sit and lay on my waterbed most of the time because of my back and neck pain. This area is like a dry cracked rash next to uh, where the crack touches. I've tried warm water soaks, aveno cream for irritated skin, and Gold bond baby powder. Nothin helps and it hurts more every time I move.

I need to know if anyone has had this? Or do you know of any other otc ways to help. Old wive's methods: I don't care. Oh yes I have tried walking around and just leaning against a wall for my back to get off my rear. Ok, laugh if you want. I'm glad to make you belly laugh, it's good medicine.

Peace and less pain in the rear,
    Deb

P.S. I can't believe I used this topic to start my first thread. Jeez, I'm a mess today,

Default what a pain in the...

    @debbrad

I don't want to disabuse anyone of the notion that I am anything but a delicate flower . . . so for both your sake and mine, I'll keep the "cracks" to a minimum.

But let's just say that once upon a time -- a long, long time ago -- I was distantly acquainted with an ample-bottomed girl who usually preferred wearing thong underwear. And rumor has it that on one occasion this girl found herself in a similar predicament to yours, symptomatically speaking. I mean, you can imagine that if you're ever breakin' a sweat and shaking your rump -- well, a thin strip of cotton always creepin' up your crack really isn't always going to create the most nurturing environment down yonder. I'm just speculating here, but I think the real culprit for this girl's flare-up of symptoms was that awful thong. In short, a flimsy piece of cotton collecting moisture down there gradually exacerbated the friction between two increasingly irritated bum cheeks -- which eventually led to a bad case of diaper rash. Uh-huh.

(Perhaps if Sisqo had known the potential perils faced by chronic thong-wearers, he wouldn't have been so eager to beg girls to let him see their thong-thong-thongs.)

So, yeah. I don't know what your cover-up story is as to how you might've acquired this rash around the skin "in between," but it probably had to do with the unfortunate combination of two factors: exposure to trapped moisture coupled with some kind of mechanical irritant, if I had to guess. (Walking around in a bathing suit would do it?)

But without being able to look at it up close and personal, I'd guess that you're suffering an ick case of diaper rash. It's not just for babies anymore!

I would recommend picking up a bottle of this formulation of Desitin or something similar, and you'll be smoother than a baby's bottom in no time. Good luck down there!

    Deb,

Crush a couple of aspirin tablets into powder and rub onto the afflicted spot - you'll be right as rain in no time.

What about pure lanolin...the stuff for breastfeeding? It's safe for the places on the body "that don't see the sun". It is commonly used for cracked nipples for new moms...maybe it can help sooth your bottom? It's pretty sticky though, so I would recommend using it at night. You can buy it at any major drugstore. I love the stuff....I use it when I get seriously chapped lips...works like a charm!

Cortisone cream is great for eczema and so is oatmeal baths...I think Aveno sells the oatmeal bath....That's what I sometimes use on my kids for their eczema....but I am not a fan of all the ingredients of the two especially in skin sensitivity issue. Cortisone has petro in it (skin irritant) and the Aveno bath has a whole slew of things which can't be pronounced.

That's why I suggested lanolin, 1 simple ingredient from a natural source

    Good luck @debbrad !

I know and I am sorry. Just want her to be careful as if it is herpes, it's very contagious, even to other parts of her own body.

Location and she said she had head and neck pain. When one has herpes outbreak, one often has a headache and slight fever, sore low back. Top of the crack is a common location for it.

Just want her to be careful w/the sore in case. Very contagious.

First the blisters come and then it scabs over. Maybe she missed the blister part.

Or shingles. It could be shingles.

I would see a doc and get it cultured just to be sure.

I initially thought shingles too...I got it as a young kid. I thought shingles shows up on one distinct side of your body though. I may be wrong and there may be many different strains.

Hmm, @Fireplaces and @LostInSpace: You may be right about the shingles thing, since the OP mentioned feeling lots of pain. I would think that something more innocuous like a rash would be uncomfortable and mildly painful but maybe not to the extent that @deb has described. So yeah, probably best to go get it checked out by a professional after all.

Anyway, I feel strange talking about @debbrad's rear-end when she's not around to chime in. Keep us all appraised about your condition, Ms. New Booty -- not to be too "cheeky" about the matter.

    Exclamation Now I'm really scared!

I have laughed about some posts and it does help! Now to those of you who didn't catch my missspelling of scabs; please don't think I have scabes!

I am having some terrible headaches, back, and neck pain. But they are also part of my chronic pain so I might have missed something in self diagosing. I do feel a little feverish too, which I thought was menopause.

The rash is in an area that can get chaffed since I lost a lot of weight. I wear hanes cotton normal underwear and mostly cotton lounge pants. The last 2 days I've been wearing a nightshirt to get more air circulating. Lotions and diaper cream make it worse. I didn't notice blisters ever but I can't see anything but feel the,"scab" near the parting of the ways.

Shingles didn't enter my mind at all till I heard from you. They come from a virus somewhat similar to chcken pox and herpes zoysisa don't they? I had the chicken pox as a child and I get fever blisters now and again. Hey! I got one right now near my bottom lip!

I have a Dr appt on the 25th and I hate to go in early to show my butt and talk about shingles. I will try they crushed asprin today. I have tried aveno oatmeal soap. That's what I bathe with. I have super sensitive skin. Even my laundry detergant is organic and posphate free.

Thanks to all for trying to help and keep the ideas coming. Mods: could you please change the spelling of,"scabs" for me. I was upset and not thinking well yesterday and I don't trust spell check.

I'm here all day if you want to get back to me and will respond. Love you guys but don't scare me.

Peace and less pain for us all,
    Deb

    @debbrad

    Hey girly,

Nothing to be scared about, but just in case you need to haul a$$ to a doctor who can diagnose you and get you a prescription for valacyclovir (Valtrex) pronto pronto pronto. If you have a fever blister you definitely don't want to cross-contaminate yourself down where the sun doesn't shine. If it ends up being anything related to the herpes virus, the sooner you pop that pill, the better chance you have of nipping this thing in the bud before it spreads.

    --

P.S. I believe you can edit the title/subject line of your thread by clicking on "edit" and then clicking on the "go advanced" button at the bottom of the composition window. It will bring you to a screen with more editing options & features. I've never tried to edit a thread subject, but it seems like it would work? Anyway, no big deal if people read the subject line as "scabies" anyway. We're all in this together, spreading this together.

Go to the doctor for sure. Neurontin might help if you have any around. In the meantime you could also go to the drug store and ask for the same stuff men use for jock itch. Benadryl might also help.

If it started as little blisters it might be shingles. Poison ivy?

i know very little on this. i was amazed by @Fireplaces. how she knew this.
but, it then occurred to me. sounds right.
and, now u say u have cold sores or fever blisters? from what i researched, u may have herpes virus, complex 1 or 2.
u can treat it. it worsens with age.
    it never goes away.
    it is manageable.
but, u can transmit same, on meds. without apparent flare up.

i mean, do not freak. see the doctor. many people developed this.

an older sis of mine, whilst in medical school, developed scabies right after learning of same at johnshopkins or mayo clinic. think was mayo. u must do autopsies. treat poor. that is curable. if u rip ur skin, whilst itching an area, u probably have the parasite under ur skin. treatments work.

however, that same doctor sister, did mouth to mouth on a stranger on the streets of ny. she may have saved a life, but, she did develop herpes. on her mouth area. right under her nose. she has meds. she never spread it. but, it does last a lifetime.
she does nor regret having it. she saved a life, in a pinch, without any protection. so, bad things can happen.

i believe quite a few have some evidence of this. u must check it out.

there is some connection with shingles, i think.
which is kinda adult form of chicken pox.
that is very painful, but would be more than one blister, i am thinking.
listen, this is not the end of ur world, if u have this.
whatever, u will want to know. and treat same quickly for ur own comfort and peace of mind. good luck.

I believe @riverstyx is right. In either case (shingles or good old-fashioned herpes) an antiviral med can help clear up this episode faster and stop more scabs/blisters from forming. By the way, the herpes virus can lie dormant in your system for a long time before it flares up. Lots of people are asymptomatic carriers and don't even know it. The flare-up may have been triggered by recent trauma or stress to the body. For some OTC relief right now, Wikipedia recommends the following: "Topical anesthetic treatments such as prilocaine, lidocaine, benzocaine or tetracaine can also relieve itching and pain."

That said, it could still just be diaper rash. Especially if "getting the air circulating" in that area seems to be helping.

@merrymiau thanks the edit worked. I will call the Dr tomorrow after I get the courage up. At this rate I will run out of xnax and pain meds before my next scheduled appt. He treats me for pain management and is my primary doc too. I was thinking of using an extra fentanyl patch just for today. Herp or shingles are really bad. At least hubby and I haven't gotten too close in a while. Better stop kissing him and yes, my adult kids for now.

If it is herpes, it's aggravated by beer, nuts, and chocolate. Eggs and pork are helpful. You can buy Lysine supplements (OTC vitamins) and they help too.

Herpes is what cold sores on your mouth are and may have gotten transferred to your lower back (being polite) by a towel or your hand. Or the virus just could have chosen to break out there. I believe that when herpes is in remission it rests (?) at the base of the spine.

I would try Abreva (again OTC) or a lysine cream. Pads soaked in milk help too. I know it's a hard spot to reach. Try a towel on your bed w/the milk pad and rest a bit. But do go see the doc. It's just good to know and will help you deal. In the meantime, treat as extremely contagious and treat anything that touches that area as contagious too.

As River said, millions of folks have this. It's no big deal, specially if you are married. It's kind of a bummer if one is dating.

And who knows it could be something else entirely! Let's hope.

And don't let the doc tell you that this recent outbreak means that you or your dh must have picked up outside the marriage as that is NOT TRUE. I PROMISE. One can be a carrier for a long time and not have an outbreak.
