    Default Spitting whilst talking

I have this problem to some degree. When it is a normal environment not so much, but say when there is significant background noise like in the town centre, near traffic etc. and moreso in louder places such as bars and especially if I have been drinking (any fluid).

I think it is a combination of my voice naturally not being very loud and obviously producing slightly too much saliva.

So the solution is therefore to somehow increase my vocal power and reduce the excess saliva. Is there anything I can try apart from swallowing every time I want to speak?

I really don't know what the answer is, but some semblance of an idea, based on a twist on that question. I had a couple of dental implants put in and now I can't whistle or pronounce certain words properly. Have you had any recent dental work or has this always been the case?

I haven't had any dental work recently, but it is good thinking. Most of my family don't have powerful voices and it could be because I have to give more effort than most people would to be heard, that said people shout without spitting. So I don't know it could be the shape of my jaw, excess saliva I don't know, but it does affect my confidence somewhat.

Is this something which has developed recently? If excess saliva in your mouth is a new symptom there may be cause for concern.

If this is an ongoing problem you have experienced for awhile, speech therapy might be worth considering, although that can be expensive. Learning to project your voice in a different manner could be a solution.

There are several prescription medications which can control sialorrhea (excessive salivation) however there is always the possibility of side effects to consider. Here is a list of some possibilities: glycopyrrolate, propantheline, amitriptyline, nortriptyline HCL, scopolamine transdermal patch.

Are you a gum chewer? If so, stop that. A guy I work with spits on me whenever he talks to me but he always has a wad of gum in his mouth and it irritates me. But you sound thoughtful enough that this is what you dont want to do. I have a soft voice and in the plant I work in, we have to yell and I usually end up hoarse because my voice just wont travel but I need a lozenger to resolve the dryness, opposite your problem.

I've never heard of such a malady, interesting. Do u think u drink too many liquids? What meds r u on? So many of them cause the opposite prob... I do know how you feel about having a quiet voice, it hurts my throat to speak too loudly. I also still have the voice of a little girl, I often hear, "is your mother home?" when I answer the phone. I hope u don't have a little girlie voice problem too, esp if you're a guy!
