Toprol XL and Pregnancy Potential Problems Miscarriage
Ok, After doing my internet research I am now very nervous!!! I am taking 50mg Toprol XL for high blood and a fast heart rate, It has been doing the trick but I just found out I was pregnant (unexpectedly!) and from everything I am reading it seems to be pretty dangerous. I see the doctor on Monday. Does any one have any experience with this drug and early pregnancy, esp @ the 50mg?

Toprol XL (metoprolol) is listed as Pregnancy Category C. That means that there are no well controlled studies in pregnant women. The benefit to the mother must outweigh the risk to the fetus. There are antihypertensive drugs classified Category B. Your Doctor is the best person to give you advice. Whatever you do, DO NOT stop taking it while you are waiting for you appointment.
