My puppy is sick. can i give her maalox
she's an 8-9 week old stray...she had her parvo shot 2 weeks ago. Today she ran around normally and had liquid stool this evening. We took a longer walk than usual and she stopped and sat down, then tried to vomit. I picked her up and rushed her home for water. She didn't drink very much. She vomited. it stank. she won't eat wet food. she picks up lots up poop and we live next to a vet so it would be easy for her to pick up something. parvo 2 weeks after her first shot? her gums are still pink and she's not too dehydrated yet. Can i give her maalox tablets to sooth her stomach for now until the vet opens or she gets better? she's in decent puppy spirits playing with her sister and humping and wagging.

thanks,
lulu
if not maalox, what would be a good to coat her stomach? i give my cat with renal failure slippery elm and it works great for her mouth and stomach sores. it should be ok for pups right?

NO do not give her any human medications without a vet's ok! Human medications can be dangerous, even toxic and deadly for your pets especially if given in the wrong dose (which is VERY different for dogs and especially YOUNG dogs than with humans.)

Yes it would be easy for her to have picked up parvo as she is still very young and her immune system is still developing. I would call your vet ASAP since with puppies not eating and drinking can be dangerous if they get low blood sugar.

If she is bright, alert and playing you could probably get away with waiting until morning as long as you keep a close eye on her but I would get her in for an appointment as soon as possible in the early morning to get her seen by your vet. If she becomes lethargic, quiet, or starts acting weird etc call the vet right away.

You should NEVER give your pet human medications, especially without talking to YOUR vet. Sounds like your dog does have parvovirus. You need to have her seen by a vet.
