They are used to treat Hypertension (fast Heartbeat) My bet is that your friend may have Angina (Don't know how old she is) or an irregular slow heart beat.

I suggest you give it back to her if its in good condition, or just throw it away if its dirty or damaged, but do tell her you found it in case she is low on them and needs to order more.
