atenolol and pregnancy...
Has anyone took atenolol while pregnant?
Or do you know anyone who tool atentolol suring pregnancy?
What size was your baby when s/he was born?
Did the medicine seem to effect the development?

My doctor told me that it effects the growth of the baby, but didn't clarify whether or not the development will be effected.

I'm soooo sad....

I took a 50 mg dose daily of atenolol throughout my pregnancy. My son was 6 pounds 3oz and 18 3/4 inches long at birth. He was born at 39 weeks. He measured large at all his ultrasounds beginning in the second trimester so i was surprised that he was 6 pounds and not 8 or 9.

You and your Dr. have to weigh the risks of the meds vs. not taking them. My bp was controlled throughout my entire pregnancy so I didnt have to worry about pre-eclampsia...which can lead to bed rest and premature birth if not controlled.

Atenolol can cause interuterine growth restrictiion but so can maternal disease that causes high blood pressure. I had an amazingly healthy pregnancy and am also breastfeeding my son while still taking atenolol.

i was on atenalol for the last two weeks of my pregnancy with my twins, because of pre-ecampsia, my lil girl was only 3lb7 when they were born at 36 weeks, although they also had steroids at 32 weeks wen i was rushed into hospital to boost their lung development.
But if my blood pressure had have become too high, it could have had worse effects. I wouldn't be too concerned, and im sure they will keep a close eye on the baby's development. Good luck x
