Are generic drugs okay?

A broad question perhaps. Use some ambien and xanax. Gets some from my doc, but Im thinking about buying some as well. Is it okay to buy generic? Is it usualy the same as the branded ones?

There are a LOT of different pills with the same name, look for example on this link, showing about 100 different sorts of Xanax-pills:

Are they all okay? If I buy some (lets say from one of the places recommended in your pharmacy-reviews) and I check the pill up against the images above, and find out that it maches one of them - then everything should be okay? Same with Ambien? Are there anny generic pills one should watch out for?

Generic drugs per se are supposed to be good since it's supposed to be the main ingredient of the drug like alprazolam is the generic drug of the brand Xanax.

As far as branded drugs vs generics and one drug brand vs another, they contain the same primary ingredient--the difference would be in the additives or fillers like coloring, etc. Ideally, the additives should not affect the drug's overall effectivity but in some cases a particular brand would work well on one patient especially if the patient has sensitivity to one of the additives in another drug.

A word of caution though when buying generic drugs online--please research on the drug's ingredients and dosage and try to compare it with the known brand. Make sure that the ingredients are almost similar since I personally saw some online pharmacies posting an ad like "generic Levitra" but when you carefully look at its contents, it is another drug!
