what is the difference between Clotrimazole cream and tolnafatate cream

I have ringworm and i was wondering if one is better than the other?

Clotrimazole (usually with betamethasone) is far more powerful. Tolnaftate may work on athlete's foot, but it won't touch ringworm. There are resistant strains of ringworm, too, that clotrimazole may struggle with. In that case ask for Naftin (a dermatologist may have samples); it's a new gel that knocked out a case my partner had that defied every other treatment. It's prescription, but off-the-shelf stuff is worthless for ringworm.

The top choices for treatment of ringworm would be miconazole or clotrimazole. Tolnaftate may work on ringworms but most would prefer clotrimazole.

The difference between the two is the generic drug component or the active ingredient. While both are considered antifungal, clotrimazole prevents growth of several types of fungi by preventing production of the membranes that surround fungal cells. Tolnaftate also prevent growth of fungal cells but they are most effective against athlete's foot. Although you may find studies that would say tolnaftate is less effective than azoles in treatment of athlete's foot but they are best for ringworms. I'd say response vary from one patient to another.
