Question from Doctor?Can sugar patient take Tenormin for blood preasure?

my mom is sugar patient. She was taking tenormin 50mg tablets.one at day and one at night.In her recent report her heart was enlarged.Doctor said to her that her heart was enlarged due to taking tenormin.Because tenormin should not be prescribed to a sugar patient.so my question is this that my moms hearts was enlarged due to taking tenormin.If yes so which medicine she should take for blood pressure with any side effects..Thanks!
