The important part is I'm taking Xanax for vertigo. My doctor tried to switch me from Xanax to Klonopin but I had a bad panic attack from the withdrawal so I went back to the Xanax and am just waiting for a referral from my doctor. From reading the Ashton Manual on benzos, I am kind of hoping I can convince the doctor I'm being referred to to switch me to Valium. The Ashton Manual speaks very highly of it, esp for tapering off of it. It also seems to me that Xanax and Valium are much similar in the variety of things they are prescribed for whereas Klonopin doesn't have much use outside of anxiety. Your knowledge and experience are greatly appreciated and even if I don't choose your answer as best, know that I really really appreciate everyone's help. You all have been lifesavers these past few days. This has been a scary trip I must say.
I forgot to add that I'm on Effexor XR 150mg/day for the depression and loss of appetite from my vertigo, so I'm not worried about Valium or Klonopin causing depression. My Xanax dosage is 2mg/day (spaced out in 4 doses), which I realize is *a lot* of valium to get that equivalent. I currently have no problems with drowsiness on Xanax, so dunno if I'll be the same with the Valium. The slight drowsiness seems to actually help a little and I think that's why I don't like the idea of Klonopin either.
