Buspar for anxiety

My doctor wants to prescribe me Buspar for anxiety. Does this medication really help? Anyone out there who has experience with this medication ?

I've tried it and it did zero for me.

It takes about 2 wks for it to build up in your body and do it's thing

Tried it out also and zilch, might as well have taken an antihistamine...which is what most non-narcotic anti-anxiety meds actually are :P

I've heard people having success with the beta blocker Propranolol if you're looking for a non benzo medication.

I've just been prescribed it as well/ It seems its famous for not working. It seems like a winner takes all drug - either it works perfectly or it doesn't work at all.

My pdoc and I discussed Propranolol, but I was hesitant to consider it without ruling out the Buspar first. Benzoes just aren't a long term solution and for me, I prefer to avoid them all together.

Interested to hear more about beta blockers though if anyone has experience.
