    Default sedative action of barbiturates

Does the sedative effect of barbiturates have to do with peripheral vasodilation that may occur as a result of toxicity?

Barbiturates act upon the central nervous system by depressing functions which include but are not limited to respiration's, consciousness and muscle tone. Barbiturates put the person into a calm, relaxed state that can quite closely resembles death if the dose is to strong. Therefore, the peripheral vasodilation is in direct correspondence's to the dose, not necessarily toxicity.
