    Default Klonopin for muscle spasms?

Last week when I got my Klonopin refilled I noticed that the bottle now says "Take 0.5mg every 6 hours for anxiety or muscle spasms."

I've never heard of klonopin used for muscle spasms. Has anyone else?

I don't know if it was something he felt like he needed to add since I'm also on Methadone and you aren't supposed to mix the two. The new wording didn't appear until he changed my dosage from 60 pills that I refilled every 2 weeks to 120 pills all at once (which was last month but didn't notice the change in wording until I picked up one of my refills last week).

And can I just add that I love my doctor for giving me 4 fills on all my medicines except the Schedule II's and that he gives me everything I ask for? Now watch....tomorrow he'll get run over by a bus and I'll be back to taking the nasty flexeril and having to get shots and nerve burnings all the time!

Yes, Klonopin is also used for treating muscle spasms. It is included as one of the drug's off-label uses before but lately it's use for such indication is being more popular.

Thank you. When I was given my first prescription last year I didn't notice the verbage for muscle spasms. Next month I'm going to read the insert that comes with it.

It's weird to me that after a year of using it I still can fall asleep on a dime. If I sit down I'm out. I spend my time walking around the house so I don't fall asleep!

I noticed that my neck and shoulders didn't hurt as bad, but I thought it was because the benzo was making me feel better and I wasn't subconciously (sp?) tightening those muscles.

Out of curiosity, what was your experience with flexeril and your spasms? Most docs now-a-days only use benzos for the last line of defense and even more rarely for off label use due to tolerance and severe dependency issues. K-pin is an anticonvulsant, and your spasms epileptically related?

@exponentially , my spasms are caused by nerve damage. I get spasms down the left leg and also my neck and shoulders. I've never been given a benzo at a pain clinic before but after going to my new specialist for several months he just scripted them out of the blue. I didn't want to admit, even to myself, that I had anxiety but I guess he saw it after several visits. I was really jerky and shaky and sometimes found it impossible to leave the house because my hands shook so bad I was scared to drive.
The Klonopin fixed all of that.

As for Flexeril? I hated it. It felt so heavy, like I was walking in syrup all the time. My previous pain clinic prescribed it to everyone but it didn't help muscle spasms and by the time I left that place I had probably 7 bottles of them. Threw all of them except one out when we were moving. Over a two year period I took that last bottle of Flexeril when I was having trouble sleeping. To me Flexeril is too strong and doesn't help with muscle spasms so I just quit taking the,.

I was very surprised to be given a benzo while I'm on Methadone, but we started with one pill at night, and then one pill in the am and one in the pm. Now it's once every 6 hours. It works like a charm to keep my anxiety at bay since I was virtually locking myself inside my house.

I have tried klonopin for muscle spasms, and was sort of disappointed by the results. I did a little reading, and it sounded like the doses needed to get relief were so large that you would basically be totally zoned out.

Yes, it helps you relax and so it'll make the muscles relax as well. I'm rxd. Klonopin for anxiety, IBS and IC. It helps quite a bit....
