    Default MoneyGram Reference # wrong?

Hoping someone with experience using MoneyGram (MG) can shed some light.

Yesterday, I used MG for the first time. Today I called the automated telephone number to see if the money had been picked up. When I call, the computer says, "Yes" my money was picked up and that the amount was $3085. I only sent $260.

So, did they give me the wrong reference number?
Will the receiver be able to pick it up?
Is this just an old reference number and mine hasn't been activated in the system yet?

I hesitate to call MG and ask because I am afraid of being hassled. If anyone has had a similar experience, I'd love to hear. Thank you!

As a follow up, the transfer was successful and my order is on it's way.

The automated phone system still doesn't give the correct information. I guess it doesn't matter as long as the transaction was successful.

I also had a similar experience, and i'm surprised it doesn't happen more often. Glad it went through and I wouldn't be concerened imo!

Thanks Johnny! I received my order this afternoon, so all is good. Thanks for putting my mind at ease.

The take home is that the automated system is somewhat unreliable.

    Hi All,

I placed another order and used MoneyGram. Just like at the beginning of Nov., I called MoneyGram's automated line to see if the money was picked up (The seller is hit or miss on sending tracking numbers).

I called the automated number, entered the Ref.#. MoneyGram says "Yes" my money has been picked up... In the amount of $6,185.87. That's like 20 times more than I sent.

Moral of the story is... The Moneygram automated line does not give accurate information.

I'll post a follow up when I receive my order. Happy New Year to All!
