I am not sure if this is the case for every country, but typically if your transaction amount with WU is < $1000 they won't ask for your driver license or ID

Hope it goes well temp. I am considering placing my first WU payment. The MG places in my area all require ID with the transaction, probably some that dont care but I have called around and couldn't find any. First WU outlet said no ID needed for the amount I was sending. THe question for me now is do I use an assumed phone number or a real one on a prepaid cell. I dont know if WU or MG call to verify info or the transaction. Any experienced users have any info on that? Any enquiring minds calling to see if the number is viable?

When I placed my western union payment it was for a small amount under 100.00. They did not ask me any questions require ID or call for verification. This was a new vendor I was trying out and was just placing a test order. Did not send more than I was willing to loose.

I know Moneygram uses your phone number to track your previous transactions. I make up different fake numbers every 3 or 4 orders, so they don't see ten transactions to a certain country in Asia, or Tijuana.

I have never been asked strange questions while using WU. I used to use them quite a bit, of course nothing over 1000 dollars.

Whatever number, address you use just be consistent if you use the same place.
I went to the same W.U. place and used 4 different addresses and 4 different phone numbers.
The clerk typed my name into the computer one time and four different
addresses came out for one name which really confused her.
She thought they were having computer problems.
I said "No problem" I'll be back later and I never returned to that place.
    It was kind of embarrassing.

In Canada we can use our western union with our online banking. It makes things so much easier doing it online. No paper work to sign, no standing in lines, Just sit back and use your computer.

    @chris100

Please enlighten me. I had no idea we could send through online banking.

You'd think I would know since I worked in IT for WU Business Solutions for a few year.

My transactions have always been smooth using the online option. This last time, however "money in minutes" wasn't an option. I had to use something called WU-Pay. The IOP (who is very reliable) said the # was wrong. Apparently there is no way to track these orders using WU-Pay. What was once a very convenient way to wire money has become tedious and, in my case, ineffective. I doubt I'll ever see any refund, nor do I expect the IOP to be successful receiving their funds either.

I would advise no one use Western Union to send any amount of money to Pakistan right now. There are several vendors that are just taking your money and those who actually ship we are seeing seizure rates well above the 1/3 mark. You are really taking a chance sending your money there and if you do get a product it's likely fake or well under dosage.

@grcauto, if I'm not prying too much where are you located and who is we?? If you aren't comfortable answering I understand, but you seem to know an awful lot about what's going on in that part of the world.

I've been involved with using vendors for several years and keeping track of those who scam and change their name and try doing it again under a new name. I had a good IT guy who could keep up with them so we could keep them from ripping people off under their new name. I can do it a bit but nothing like my friend who has died over a year ago. I also worked with another friend who is a doctor of pharmacy and I will buy pills (usually benzos) and have them tested and report. I'm a businessman that can afford to lose a little money here and there and if it can save some people who can't afford to be ripped off it's well worth it to me. As far as what areas of the world are having problems a couple of the forums I use are real strong about keeping their members informed about these areas. The hottest area in the world right now for shipping out is Pakistan. Also, they are not as friendly with the US as some may think. We have found meds that have come from that area which had poisons in them. I would need to get with my friend on the names of them but they are not benign. The one he told me could shut down your liver and other major organ functions with large doses of the meds. another was a poison that would take a long time to do the damage even in large doses, but if used regularly they would cause severe problems if not death.
Like I say, I'm just a businessman and very successful with that. My main goal is to expose the vendors that are ripping people off and those that are selling poison. I have my own reason for why I have started this crusade let's just say I lost one to many friends to using the crud sold by some and one who took his own life largely due to the fact he took meds that were totally wrong for him. We didn't have a clue until after he shot himself and the police found illegal meds (from a vendor in Pakistan) and had them tested and they were psychotropic mixed with something else.

I used WU through my bank account online the first time a few weeks ago. It wasn't a big amount-but now the site has gone down. I'm waiting to see if my items will ever get shipped before I try to get any money back. I don't know what WU policy is about refunds.

This is just MY experience with WU through the years. I used to do online but hated the fees that get charged to your cc, so I primarily go to an actual location---fee is reasonable, for what I spend. As long as you stay under $1000, pretty much, no questions. I have had the receivers name misspelled, & that can be corrected with a phone call. I had a new one last month--WU sent the money to the wrong country. After days of phone calls & several visits to the actual WU office--this is how to resolve. The whole WU order must be voided--your cash returned--and then a new order sent. Hope this will help someone waste less time next time there is a problem.

In Australia to use Western Union to transfer any amount via the website you have to give them your drivers licence, date of birth, address, previous address, then you have to have a conversation with them on the phone and go through everything again..

If you do it in person you also must provide ID.

They must be really worried about chargebacks more than anything I think.

Have used WU online now for quite a while, orders are never over the 200$ mark and it's linked to a CC so it's just a case of filling in the form online and bam done

They're under close scrutiny by gov.au.
