    Default girl od on soma

I have horrible insomnia, and I hadn't slept in four days.

That in itself was painful. On top of that, I was getting pretty damn stressed. I kept passing out at the wrong times during the day.

I came home and tried to sleep for about an hour, but it was all in vain. Over the summer, I used to pop a few pills to 'knock me out' so I could sleep. I thought of it more as pills easing me into sleep.

I usually think about things before I swallow them, but I was horribly desperate and most definitely wasn't thinking when I popped 6 350mg Somas--at once. Now, I'm pretty tiny physically, and even though I did pills frequently, I still had a pretty low tolerance.

They kicked in 10 minutes after I took them. I was on the phone with my friend, and he said that he had to go, and hung up--when in all actuality, he hung up and took a cab to my house!

I was seeing double by then. I went outside to greet him, but couldn't really see him enough to hug him. He went inside and called the ambulance.

I spent six hours in the hospital. I had to DRINK charcoal. I threw up a lot of it. It was a horrible, miserable, disgusting experience. Somas are fun, but take them in stride. Taking a lot of Somas is VERY DANGEROUS, especially if you are a lightweight, like me.

Sorry, and I do not want to confront or aggrevate you, but did I understand that you were prescribed Soma for insomnia? I can be dumb sometimes, so please forgive me if I am putting word in your mouth.

I really do understand the feeling of desperation.

What made you take that many especially if you say that you're a lightweight? That's a terrible experience but I'm glad you are alright after that...

I rated this helpful because people tend to downplay the effects of soma. I wasn't down playing or making light of what happened! K? Thanks for sharing this.

Did the same as @Mlmk. Thank you for sharing your experience, but doooo be careful! OD =/= not cool. I guess ironically you could have gone to the ER for insomnia. Very glad you're ok nonetheless! Stay healthy please.

@MegJoelleVidal, just so you know I'm not talking out of my ear or something, I (and many members of this forum) have felt that desperation that comes after days of no sleep...but you sound like you are smart enough that you knew you were in danger, cause you called your friend and thank God for that friend, he saved your life.

you probably also know that too much of drugs like Soma, or O's, benzos, or mixing a bunch of pills....h***, even drinking too much too quickly will kill you.

Most everyone here will agree that if you can't sleep, you need to get your friend to take you to a doctor and get the right drug to help you sleep, and you need to do this like tomorrow. when you don't get sleep for that long, I remember, you really can't think straight, you know?

Cause Soma is a muscle relaxer, it's not meant to help you sleep--(even though it will make you sleepy if you take too much) but that's not what type of drug it is.

though you probably didn't care at the time, you obviously just wanted to get some sleep any way you could, you gotta get help cause you almost left this world.

and I bet there's people, like your friend who rushed over in a cab, who really thnk the world's a better place with you here in it, alive and well, u know?

I'm pretty sure lots of people in this forum are going to want to help you. That's just the way we are. They helped me cause I listened to them and followed what they told me to do when I was in a bad way, when I wasn't thinking straight.

But you gotta listen and not get to the point where you just take a bunch of pills cause you can't stand it anymore; believe me, there are good doctors out there who will help you. Just don't take chances with your life like that because it is a very, very precious gift, you are a very precious gift and are on this earth for a reason....we all are.

I gotta go cause I can't stay on the pc late, but please, if you ever feel like that again, call someone right away, ok? (I keep my closest friends on speed dial).

that was really smart that you did that, that you called your friend.

Ok, people, let's help MegJoelleVidal out here.

Take care of yourself now, ok?................WR

@Megjoellevigal first I am thankful for your friend that saved your life!

I am a severe insomniac and so I know how desperate you get when you can't sleep. But yes you sometimes just need sleep meds. You maybe one of those patients that have to have meds to sleep like me. I have faced that fact. I order ambien online now instead of via my doctor. He never listened anyways and when my tolerance builds he just says don't sleep. So I have a routine I go through that works well for me and is cheaper.

Yeah i take risk now but that is my decision.

Anyways Hun i hope you seek help for your insomnia issues and get a doc to help you out. And yes please be careful with meds because NOTHING IS AS PRECIOUS AS YOUR LIFE!

and to think, prior to January 12, 2012, we could have 90 350mg Watsons overnighted, domestically for $75. now that the DEA have scheduled Soma to a lvl 4 controlled substance, such a luxury is gone. I too have overdosed on soma, on 2 occasions. I was in a "soma coma" and woke in the ER with a catheter (I'm glad I don't remember that) in me and IV fluids. however, that was when I used my rx's recreationally. If I remember correctly I was also on valium the first time and xanax the second time. Soma synergizes with any CNS depressant and should be used very cautiously, even if one thinks they have a grasp of their tolerance.

    @MegJoelleVidal
Welcome to p.r. It takes alot of courage to tell this story when you are still whetting you relationship with a new forum.
like i titled this, I've never spoken of it here,to ashamed, yet you have the guts right from the starting gate.
After my dh passed away i was hit with extreme mental and physical exhaustion. Yet i had becomen so used to sleep deprivation i was unable to get to sleep. I have zero
Recollection of doing so but apparently i took many soma tablets in an attempt to sleep. I tucked my kids into bed and remember having a cup of chamomille tea and the intention on taking a few soma. I have M.S. and when the muscle spasms Associated with some parts of my body, i have abusivelly taken 2-3 soma for relief. I know this is abusing a script but that night I remember thinking I have taken 3 before and they had only mildly made me sleepy so 4 should put me to sleep.the next thing i remember is waiking up in an e.r. room with my eldest son,a teenager, sitting next to me. Apparently i had tried to get up knocked over a lamp and smashed into a mirror hard enough to break it. My poor son came into my room and saw his mother naked, don't have any idea what happened to my clothing. He said i was scratching all over and could barely speak. He called 911 and then a neighbor to watch over my 2 younger children. He managed. To convince whomever that he had a license to drive and followed. The ambulance. This was two weeks after his Dad had passed away from cancer. It took a long time for us to reestablish trust. I never did find out how many pills i had taken, but by a recounting it must have been around 10 or 11.
I had also forgotten to take my antidepressant for about a week prior. I will live with that guilt for the rest of my life.

@vyudo, My last order of Domestically shipped Watsons was #180 for $129 C.O.D. filled on 12-29-11. I only have 27 left as I generally take 3 a day and had some left over from a previous order. To hell with Tramadol, I want some Watsons damn it! Price is not the primary issue. Somebody must be able to provide genuine DAN 5513s within approx. 10 days.

Default Thanks for sharing your story

I had a problem in younger days with taking too much of this and that. I took mostly Fiorinal (for cluster headaches) and Soma for herniated disc. I accidentally got confused and took too many Soma (can't say how many cuz don't remember now (25 years later) and didn't remember then either. I went a bit catatonic (according to my husband who found me). I was sort of frozen in a weird position. I know now that as a muscle relaxant Soma can "relax" your heart right to death. ER, Charcoal, and ICU followed. Thank God he was there. Had to stop that combo. BE CAREFUL

I'm surprised how many people have been forthcoming about ending up in the hospital for soma abuse. I feel like anyone that uses that med knows about the old "soma coma". How terrible they actually ended up in one. From personal experience I know it can make memory black outs, and absolutely kill your motor skills. Although we all know it, we tend to overlook it when times are desperate.

Sleep deprivation is no joke. Any doctor worth their salt knows this and treats the problem seriously. I do wish there were better meds to be rx'd than Ambien or Rozerem. They both have major draw backs. Maybe one day they'll invent something to get people to fall asleep and stay asleep safe and sound.

Til then, here's a good intention sent out to all that need it. Stay safe.

I am so glad to hear that everybody that wound up in a "soma coma" has recovered.A few years ago my sister took too much soma & it was the scariest experience watching her in such a deep sleep. She did wake up a short time later but I came very close to calling an ambulance for her. Please everyone, be careful with the soma.

While there has been much wonderment, surprise and complaining about "why would the DEA bother with scheduling Soma as a C-IV controlled substance?" I believe that some of the posts on this thread may more fully explain why it was determined by the agency to be necessary and prudent.

You can overdose on anything if you take enough of it. Google "Acetaminophen toxicity" sometimes. I'll believe the FDA isn't pandering when they take apap out of OTC circulation.
