Question Do you use your home address or a PO box?

I just want to know who uses what and maybe a statment explaining why.

I use my home address because I dont feel like its that big of a risk. First LL I get and Ill change it. Till then I like getting all my mail in one place.

Make that two of us -- I've always used my home address, and always is a long time for me...going on fourteen years now I think.

Hell, I used my "home address" when it was an APO number : -)

Personally, I always thought PO boxes looked sneaky, and when they changed the law to force you to use a "PMB" number, that really blew it.

I order lotions and salves for my wife from ********, soaps and scented oils, books from the various Amazon sites, so there's something foreign in my mailbox almost every day, the mail lady never even glances at the "other" packs.

There are several options. You can have them deliver to your house and you can have FedEx deliver to a FedEx Kinkos for hold. You can also do the same at a UPS Store. This way you don't have to give your real address to anyone.

I use a post office box but I'm not under any illusions about it being "safer" than my home address. The only reason I use it is that I live in a subdivided house (into apartment residences) and the mail gets delivered in the lobby of the house. One time my drug addict neighbors---they were cocaine addicts, and fortunately they were booted out for non-payment of rent----stole my VA meds thinking it was controlled meds. They stole zyrtec, which is prescribed to me. They later gave it back to me. I reported it to the police. The idiots didn't know that controlled meds through the VA postal system are always signature required. Anyway, after that I didn't want to worry about someone else stealing my mail so I got a PO Box. Now I use that as my main address. If I ever get an LL, I'll switch to my regular address.

It doesnt matter in my state anymore. You gotta use your drivers license to get a PO box now so even if you did it wouldnt be any different. Just more secure from theft.

I use a pmb at the ups store, they glance at your drivers license, change your name by one letter and your safe from any prosecution, plus no controlled deliveries.

I've always used my home address, never had any seizure issues, but I did have a package stolen when I lived at an apartment complex. I don't buy that much though, quantity wise. If I did I'd probably go with a drop. I've also heard of people shipping to empty houses. Might be something to take advantage of during the housing decline, as long as you don't raise any suspicions from the neighbors.

@pook1176 How is a home address safer than a PO Box? When I set up my PO Box I had to give them my home address. So unless you give them a different address how is it safer? They can still provide your physical address to LE if they had to.

I still think the safest way is to deliver through FedEx or UPS and deliver it to either a FedEx Kinkos or a UPS Store. That way you don't have to use your home address.

A PO Box is just a PO Box. It's neither inherently good nor is it bad. People have them for a variety of reasons. Some places like Fedex won't deliver to a PO Box, and some op's won't deliver to a po box either. But if it raised suspicion in and of itself, I wouldn't use it.

    Hi Mlo,

You don't have to actually have a delivery attempt to a regular address before they will hold it for you at the UPS store? I really didn't know that.

What type of service is that? I had one very near disaster recently with UPS over Christmas and WISHED they would've just held on to it for me at a store instead of mis-delivering it.....twice!

I never thought of Kinko's or the UPS store, may be a good option for my deliveries.

I have used both, I used my home address when I was living in a house and had a street addy. Worked great never had one package taken. Than I moved to Eugene and into a apartment and blam first package got grabed by customs. I have since been useing a po box and got every package so far. I really dont think it makes a differnts if its home are po box. The only thing that I have heard is safer 4 sure is to get it sent to a bussiness addy that gets a larg amount of mail.

@paperboy all you have to do is use the UPS Store or Fed Ex Kinkos address as your shipping address. Then UPS or FedEx will deliver the package to either store and you just go pick it up. UPS charges five dollars for will call packages while FedEx does not charge. If your package already has your home address on it you can go to the UPS website, enter the tracking number and request that it be held at the package center. You can also call them and they will help you out. Im not as familiar with FedEx but Im sure you can do the same.

@rollyfingerz by address forwarding do you mean a remailer service?

i've thought this same question myself. after reading all the responses, i think its safe to say that ill continue recieving packages at my house since i've never had a problem with any missing packages. live out in the sticks anyways so not too worried about it.

@msuser thats good that you havent had any problems, however I would still worry some even if you do live in the sticks. Ive seen a couple programs following some Sheriffs in some small towns (and I mean small) busting people for OC. No one is immune to the law.
