Default MoneyGram Question Regarding Receiver. Need Help!

Second time using MoneyGram here. I live out in the boondocks and couldn't get to CVS. When I went to this store I filled out paper and clerk put information in.

For middle name, she only had field for first initial and not entire middle name. Now receiver is saying need full middle name.

do I call MG? When I called WU regarding Mexican transaction, they canceled it when they saw it was for Baja Norte.

Any help would be sincerely appreciated. My order is in limbo until I can resolve this.

  2. I had this happen before they had to put the second name in the last name slot.. I would call and ask for help resolving this, maybe they can over ride the system

Was this recently that you had to change the name? They have had so many crackdowns on this stuff.

  4. Maybe a month ago, give or take a few weeks, Several of the vendors wont even take WU anymore due to the issues with them. i am wondering how long it is until its the same for MG

For anyone reading this thread, just get the receiver name right because I don't think MG has a tolerance level for calling customer service and making any changes to it.

The clerk said she only had one field for middle initial. Going forward I will plod to the closest city and use the red phone at CVS!

  8. 'cuse me but if there's 4 names you've only got 3 spaces, available you would use the first two names together as ONE name like, Susanlinda Anderson Smith. ~

  9. I think typically thats what they try to do but there is a character limit which is what bella encountered.

Actually on paper it is like this:

    First Name:
    Middle Name:
    Last Name:
    Second Last Name:

On the clerk's MG screen it is the exact same way

...but when she went to type it in, she could put in only one letter for middle name. I guess I could have asked her to run first name and middle name together but that seems like a problem too.

I do just want to reiterate that when people are giving MG the receiver's name whether by phone or in person, make sure you don't mess up and have to contact MG customer service. It is possible to have it canceled if sending to Mexico. Seems to raise red flags. This is happening with WU and MG.

THE GOOD NEWS is the receiver said they were able to pick up. I would think that if you have a first name, 2 last names and a middle initial you would be able to lol...whew!

  11. I usually only get asked for the -

    First Name
    Last Name
    Second Last Name

I wish more vendors would leave the middle name out. I always have to check my info over and over again , even if I have checked it 5 or 6 times. The good thing about moneygram is you can grab a few papers and fill it out at home. This was helpful one time because they changed the receiver at the last second.

I hope the vendors are looking for new methods for making payment. I have a feeling MG will eventually start acting like WU , if they haven't in some cases already. They also might want to change the location away from Baja CN. JMO

    thanks @Otter Bob

I found out that if the person is typing it in for me I am supposed to give them first and middle name to type in first name which I suspect some already knew here lol. Maybe many don't though.

Glad it worked out for you Bell, it seems like something ALWAYS goes wrong with WU/MG. I know a lot of posters swear by the red phone but I feel the superior option is the mom-and-pop operation in the Latin area of town with a Latin clerk. These clerks process tons of transactions to Mexico and know how to make the names work so the receiver can pick up. Just another option to consider.

  14. i've always had good luck using the red phones. recently, i've also noticed that some payday loan stores are very good places to make transfers. these stores utilize many MG services (bill pay, money transfer, money order, prepaid cards, etc.) so the clerks seem much better trained than joe schmo working his third-ever shift at the local walmart.

Use western union. I use it mostly online and occasionally in person. The only problems I have ever had have been on my end (credit card co. questioning unusual transaction) or old lady in person by accident misspelling the receiver's name. However, that was easily fixed over the phone.

I have never been questioned nor have any of my transfers been canceled.

I thought you have had problems with WU recently @RaisingtheBar . i certainly have. That's why I am using MoneyGram now. WU doesn't like transferring your money to certain MX OP locations.

Reports have been pro and con with WU and MG but seems like MG not as particular as WU when sending to MX.

Only problems was a low spending limit. But otherwise, they have never restricted my transactions.

MG is actually the only one I can't log into now. It's a simple fix, too many wrong pwd entered, but I need to call to fix and I guess I'm just lazy.

WU has been easy and no problems (except for receivers pretending they didn't receive - nothing on WU's end) and using a rewards card to help with the outrageous prices.

They did just change their online and in person set-up. Require an ID in person now too. But everything has been smooth. No receivers turned down.

They don't have middle names! Forget it.

Babies are sometimes given two FiRST names at birth. Like, Miguel Angelo or a girl Rosa Maria.
The two names are used as one.

    So:
Miguel Angelo - double first name
    Martinez - Dad's last name
    Torro - Mom's last name = 4

Most people in Mexico and Latin American countries use that order. The reason for this is mainly for identification because many people share the same names (both first and last names).

    ALSO..

In Mexico, If a woman marries, she can retain her last name or her husbands. (the maternal last would be replaced with new husbands). I hope that info is
right (from what I read online tonight for an hour.)

whew.. ~ hopes this helps someone

So much better to go in store with cash. and yes the poster that said the spanish speaking clerks are very adept at these forms are best. Our stores will not take cards of any kind, only cash.
ps as far as phone numbers goes, you can make one up, just remember it for next time because if it doesn' match, it's a no go, it is used as part of you id in profile.

I used the Mexican MG form and it has 4 spaces for names. I have only used MG twice (used to use WU). I get several forms in case I screw it up. I have never had a problem, no one says anything to me, but we do have a large population of Hispanics here so maybe the clerks are used to it? I hate the phone so I go to Walmart, lol.

  20. and moneygram is 1000% nit picky if you drop a letter - you best call them up and fix it - because if its going to Mexico they will not give money unless its 100% spelled correct. truncation is not an excuse.
