Default Louisiana regulations on getting prescribed meds inside

yes they have caught up with me about 1 1/2 yrs ago i went to court for 1st offence DWI ( no alcohol prescribed medicine) while at cout the computor system and an aggresive DA charged me with my 4th dui . After much legal jockying and @ 32,000$ 90 day's rehab 7 month's half way house instead of the 10 yr minimum in La. looks like I'm gonna get 2 yrs for being alcoholic. No wrecks involved no one hurt. My big worry besides the abvious is having to go cold turkey from my meds.. prozac and 100mg seroquel for 3 yrs and several PK's. Will they continue my meds? again this in Louisianna.

I believe if you have a legit prescription under the care of a doctor they would give it to you, especially the prozac as stopping cold turkey could be bad so that would be a liability I don't think the prison would not want to chance. I just did a quick google search and although this may not apply to the jail you will go to, the one for Webster Parish says inmates are allowed to continue to receive prescription medications.

i work in a large county jail , not a penetentiary where Rusty will be habitating. our rules allow pre-prescribed meds, however the list is small and only for the bare necessities. there are no "get-high" meds allowed. the prisoner is transported to a hospital for any serious life threatening treatment. Rusty should have her attorney write a letter to the MD in charge because often times a few weeks will go by until the meds are available. however these are entirely 2 different institutions in different states.

    Hi @rustyRORER714
I'm sorry to hear about your predicament. You may want to direct this question to your attorney who has likely answered it before. You may find some additional information at the following website: www. NCCHC.org

I wish you well and hope you find the answers you seek.

Prozac maybe but "several PK's" is extremely doubtful.
As an aside, I don't think your sentence is because you are an alcoholic necessarily but rather because of minimum sentencing guidelines for four DUI convictions.
You are very fortunate that no one was hurt although that's likely little comfort for you at this point.

What Parish are you going to be in?

They will let you have sequeral but you can count on one hand what they will let you have.
Do you have time to detox before you go?

If you tell them that you are addicted to benzos or booze, they will let you detox first because you can die if you go cold Turkey off of those.

You will wish you were dead going cold turkey off of pain meds, but you won't.

Louisiana is one of the few if only States that have no good time.

If you get five years, you serve five years.

If you get life, you serve life.

I have had a total of 5 DWIs in La. but that was back when they slapped you on the wrist and made you pick up trash on the side of the road.

Back then it only stayed on your record 3 years. So as soon as one dwi had passed three years, it was counted as a first one again. That is how I stayed out of jail.
Also having a good lawyer helped.

I went to DWI school so many times that I could have taught the class.
But this has all been many many years ago.

I thought that it was mandatory that you serve 6 months on a first offence?

I don't know. I moved away almost 14 years ago. So I am sure things have changed.

You do know that you are going to lose your drivers lic. for 5 years to permanent. If you have not already.

Good luck in prison! I would call someone and make sure they are going to administer your meds....If not it would have been wise to have figured this out a little earlier so you could taper off....Just in case they don't give you your meds in prison. I am sorry that you are going to prison.....But I sincerely hope when you get out that you Never drive under the influence again in your Life! That is assuming they give you your license back in the future. What a Bummer...Be careful in there and make the time worthwhile!! Get some type of Education in there whether it be Technical or Scholastic.
    Be safe!
None of this is meant in a Negative manner...I wish you the Best and hope you get out early and the time goes by Fast.

Ask your doctor. Doctors have "unusual authority" at times. No doubt it's state governed.

My buddy did 18 months for 3. First thing he did when he got out was get a Southern Comfort Manhattan to celebrate. Had about 4 and drove home ~ suspended license.

    Please don't make that mistake.

I hesitate to say this. Your meds might be easier obtained from fellow inmates than living in the land of the free.

Unless they pay you under the table my friend, I afraid they will be waiting for you on the Helipad.

At least you will be with a bunch of Coonasses. (I can say that because I am half Cajun) They are better than McGivier at being resourceful.
Did you know you would still have to do time even if you went into treatment and a halfway house? or did you have a little slip up?

Worked for a state pen and you will get prescribed needed medications on scheduled doses, but each state is different and they may have their own medical team evaluate you when you arrive.
So they could give you the prescribed meds and then their Dr deem your condition is not conducive to continuing the treatments or you need to begin a taper off of them.
If it is a state facility you are going to have a Dr and nurse team as well as a psychologist evaluating you and looking at your medical history.

Less than worry about meds - if you aren't a big person, go in and pick a fight. First thing. In the most public and guarded place you see, such as the cafeteria.
Get thrown in solitary for 3 - 5 days. Plus it's still the beginning so it's not as bad on your time record as doing it six months in when bullying is too much. Then ask for PC - protected custody. Tell them your fight was with the head of the Aryian, the had of the gang, whatever but be convincing and use the phrase "I am scared for my life" if you don't use that phrase they can use words to finangle out of PC.
Otherwise even if they give you your meds you are going to be hiding them in your mouth and depositing on some burly greaser's bunk for "safety".
Our office "clerk" was in for DUI offenses and did okay but he started off with a mate in county that cardiac arrested and arranged the dude's head on the toilet before he called for guards so everyone thought he was a nutter that probably did the guy in and left him the hell alone. We were level 3 and yes it is in some cases like television because the level 5's that aren't sitting in DR or lifers eventually move down security levels. So there's my best advice, take it or leave it. One thing I learned was how to work the system if I was ever in the system. Believe me.

Just so long as you are not too choosy about what you might have to do to get those meds

Do you know the name of the prison? Is it on the west or east bank?
If it is Huntsville that in a minimum security prison and they will let you outside the gates to farm and clean the roads. Personally. I would rather have my own private room (cell)

@LSUCAJUNTIGER we had workers too that left each day. If it were me, I'd want the privacy and ability to be in with the loons in PC anyday than leave to clean roadside trash, do dishes, or cook somewhere. Heck no. Besides, 75% of the ones who left wound up with offenses and trouble that lengthened their stay at our 3 star resort because they swapped meds, got meds, sold meds, had inappropriate relationships outside, fought - when you owe someone and they tell you to use road time to beat the crap out of their target you do it.
I wouldn't swear to it but I believe some of the PC guys got to work too. It was just more supervised as far as them being around the others.

Rusty . . . OMG, I wish I had known sooner. I am a hopeless alcoholic. I use baclofen to mitigate the anxiety that drives the craving to drink, and I HAVE MY LIFE BACK!!! A French cardiologist wrote about his own deliverance from alcohol in a book that (in its second edition) is called, "Heal Thyself," by Dr. Olivier Ameisen. You can get it from Amazon overnite delivery for a pittance, I'm sure. Too late to keep you out of this situation, but perhaps the basis for a whole new life - free from addiction - when you're free. Google baclofen and alcohol, cocaine, whatever you can think of. It's a generic neuro-muscular relaxant that works on different receptors than alcohol, opiods, cocaine, etc., but has the potential, according to Dr. Ameisen and in my own experience, to end all addictions. And it's NOT about having a higher power or a spiritual break-through or being a moral failure. "Heal Thyself," and the use of baclofen for addiction, is roughly the equivalent of a diabetic taking insulin. Addiction is a disease of the brain. Period. Baclofen has the potential to manage that disease for a lifetime. It has been used primarily for people with MS or spinal cord injuries, and they take it for their entire lives without developing addiction or increased tolerance. Since it's generic no pharma has any interest at all in generating the double-blind studies necessary to demonstrate its ability to cure addiction . . . which would cut the whole recovery/treatment model off at the knees . . . which would get people well instead of increasing their dependence on support groups and all kinds of shit that does. not. work.

Buy the book. Take it with you. Maybe, just maybe, you can find someone in "the system" who would be willing to work with you while you're "in," which could mean that you could come out with NO alcohol or drug dependence, just a maintenance dose of baclofen to aid an imbalanced brain. And I'm not pointing a finger. I take baclofen daily. Otherwise, I would be dead of liver disease or falling down my stairs or running off the road . . . you know how it is when you can't not drink. I certainly do.

Or PM me your address, or where you'll be locked up, and I'll mail the book to you. It has been a miracle for me. You can come out of this stronger and healthier than you've ever been in your life!!!

That's one of the benefits of going to prison in the US: free medicare. As long as your need is legitimate and you have a proper diagnosis you will get your drugs.

Prison probably isn't the best place to get better, but good luck. I hope you can kick your habit and become good with your life

I second the idea that Baclofen is a great drug from many ailments. I wish they would do more studies on the benefits of this medication! I take 30 mg every night for sleep and relaxation!

It's very cheap to buy if you don't have insurance.
