    To the girl worried about her 1,000 pills of a non-controlled substance: I don't think you'd have as much to worry about. The reason I say this is just because they are looking to keep controlled substances out of the country so that's probably what they are focusing on. However being that it might be a larger package with all those pills rattling around, which might cause closer inspection. At the end of the day you could technically still get in trouble for buying prescription medication without a prescription whether it was a controlled sub. or not.

    I would be interested in learning about that as well - on the generic side.

    I know of one but dont have a pdr handy. They are way more expensive than iop, but they are highly off the radar, and only sell 20-30 things and itt comes in a day or 2.

    Within usa they need a warrant to open it. Rattling pills or not, they have to deliver. Going over the border they can open it just because they want to. The only time they get a warrant within usa is when they have a tip and even then they need some evidence like a dog alerting to certain controlled drugs its been trained on. They don't know how to detect pills unless maybe they had morphine in them. Even then i'd bet you would be safe.

    There's a doctrine called the border search exception to the 4th Amendment's warrant requirement. International mail is included under the exception. When viewed in conjunction with the statute authorizing Customs and Border Patrol to conduct searches, it authorizes a warrantless search of any package entering the United States from a foreign country. The United States Supreme Court decided the issue in United States v. Ramsey, 431 U.S. 606 (1977):

    "Congress and the applicable postal regulations authorized the actions undertaken in this case. Title 19 U.S.C. § 482, a recodification of Rev.Stat. § 3061, and derived from § 3 of the Act of July 18, 1866, 14 Stat. 178, explicitly deals with the search of an 'envelope':

    'Any of the officers or persons authorized to board or search vessels may . . . search any trunk or envelope, wherever found, in which he may have a reasonable cause to suspect there is merchandise which was imported contrary to law. . . .'

    This provision authorizes customs officials to inspect, under the circumstances therein stated, incoming international mail."

    But yeah, a warrant is required for domestic mail.

    * * *

    "The critical fact is that the envelopes cross the border and enter this country, not that they are brought in by one mode of transportation rather than another. It is their entry into this country from without it that makes a resulting search 'reasonable.' It is their entry into the country from without it that makes a resulting search 'reasonable.' "

    Any advice if you live in a "no ship" state? What I need is not available from any IOP I have been able to find and I have spent hours looking.

    I've never used one, but have seen them talked about on this board: a re-mailer service could be something to look into? You would have to ask other members or do a search to see if you can find more info. You have to pay for it, but if it's your only option...

    Good luck

    I live in a no-ship state, but close to the border of another state that has no such laws. How sketchy would it be for someone to get an out-of-state P.O. Box to get prescriptions mailed?

    My recommendation would be a UPS store box in a bordering state. Many sources won't ship to a PO box and with a UPS box, you get an actual street address. If you are using a CC, you might have to change or add the mailing address of the CC to the address of the UPS box as some require that the billing and shipping addresses match. Good luck.
