Is Xanax okay to use in pregancy daily (low dose up to 1mg)?

My wife uses xanax for anxiety disorder and is 7 weeks pregnant. She is very worried about birth defects, but her doctor has told her not to stop using the medication suddenly. I was wondering if other women have used this medication during pregnancy and had healthy babies.

I was told by my doctor not to take it... BUT i was also told that sometimes it is used if the benefits outweigh the risks.. if your wife has extreme anxiety bad enough to where the stress will harm the baby , they most likely will either let her continue to take it or prescribe something else. Every Individual is different.. you will probably get some RUDE answers on here, but just ignore them.. most of these people dont know what they are talking about and just like to bash people without actually trying to help...

My friends baby was born with autism cause of it but your dr is right, suddenly stopping it can cause problems too.
Plus your wife has to think about her own conditions as well, if hse has problems bad enough to be on meds in the first place then she really needs to stay on them.
It really seems to be a no win situation and Im sorry for that, but I thought you should know the options anyways.

She will have to wean herself off of it, but no, it is absolutely not safe during pregnancy. Category D. It can cause congential defects in the baby.
