Zoloft & alcohol..
Hi- I am currently on Zoloft..asked my dr if I could enjoy a margarita while taking it...he said yes thats fine. Now what I should have asked him was- How MANY margaritas can I enjoy while on zoloft....I am the maid of honor for my sisters wedding and am throwing the bachelorette party, so there will be more than one margarita (unless its huge), limo, clubbing..all the works for a proper send off- anyone out there on zoloft that has consumed alcohol- will it kill me, will I be okay...if I stop the zoloft say a week ahead of time will that keep me in the clear? Don't want to be a party pooper...I hate asking my dr these question because they always say alcohol is bad anyway, noone should drink it, and then I sound like a drunk...I am not, I rarely drink but it IS a BACHELORETTE party!

The reason you would want to avoid the alchohal is that an
SSRI could intensify the affect of the alchohal. I have been on Paxil and now Lexapro & Lamictal for 7 years and have had no problems going out and drinking. I would just keep an eye out on how many you are having, know your limit and dont drive

Call your doctor's office and ask. There are factors involved, such as your weight, your over all health, whether or not you eat anything when you drink, etc. NEVER stop Zoloft cold turkey! It can have a rebound effect that is worse than what you were feeling before you started taking it; and then it will not work as effectively when you resume taking it. The rebound effect mixed with alcohol is probably worse than a couple drinks with the Zoloft. I have been to weddings and parties ( I do not take medication) and have never felt the need to drink just because it is a wedding, etc. That is no excuse for drinking if you otherwise do not normally drink.

i´d stay completely off the drinks! you will ruin your treatment if you suspend it for a week.
