hydrocodone problem in the united states
hydrocodone aka lortab, vicodin... is a problem in the us today. im not down on anyone that has a problem with them... i'm addicted myself. but, do you older people remember peri-goric (spelling might be wrong)? our parents used it all the time and they gave it to us when we were kids. it is pretty much liquid opium. do you think that has anything to do with the opiate epidemic going on today???

Great question!!!
I don't know if my parents used paragoric on me or not but I know we use to put it in my son's bottle in the early 70's.

I have been taking hydrocodone for about 10 years for a cervical spine injury so I too am addicted, but that is just part of suffering chronic pain. I've been in a pain management program for years so taking pain medication is just part of my life now. The one thing I have going for me is that I have never taken more than I should and have never tried to self-medicate. The meds have never become a problem for me but I sure know plenty of people that it has become a problem for.

Your question certainly make me think about it. My parents are both dead so I can't ask them but I will keep an eye on this question to see what other answers are.

It might, but there's been an opium epidemic for far longer than that. For years, there was OTC Laudanum, basically for headaches, but a legal opiate. Then, then about opium dens... It's not at all new. With all the media, and people getting into everybody else's business, it seems far worse, but addiction has been a problem for centuries.
