a question for a first time levitra user

does levitra work like viagra. I mean, do I take one pill before sex, wham bam for 3-4 hours and Im done or is it like a vitamin where I need to keep taking one a day even when i don't have sex. I have all the med forms to go with the pills but being so expensive-$15 Can- I dont want to pop pills everyday.
Please help!!
