what if someone with normal blood pressure took a beta-blocker for a week and then went cold turkey
would they develop severe hypertension?

Beta Blockers are prescribed for things other than just blood pressure. So, NO, taking a beta blocker with normal blood pressure is not going to change the pressure and cause high blood pressure when you stop taking it. If you have high to begin with, and stop taking the beta blocker, it will just rise to the level it was before you took the med, whatever that pressure was.

one of two things, nothing or the pressure would drasticly change and there could be a spot for you in a hospital in a week for you
